The Pete is not fatal, but it PISSES me off!!!!!

My Baccy/Liquor Cabinet

This is something I have been working on this winter.

I took an old microwave cabinet I built about 15 yrs ago, and added the top doors, locks, sealed the bottom section to keep out light, painted it, lined it with spanish cedar veneer, built the pipe rack and attached it to the top. I have some glass to get cut for the top to protect it.

It's alot better than the old plastic tubs I was keeping my stash in.

Which brings me to Burleys. I few guys in my pipe club, and you know who you are, are big fans of Burleys. And I'm sure there are more Burley smokers on here so I'm asking ...

This has been my favorite aromatic tobacco for a long time because it is not goopy, doesn't bite, and has an exquisite cherry flavor that is not syrupy like many of the others on the market. I've heard J.M. created this one about 1971. I wish I would have known about it then, it would have been a hit with the ladies on Saturday night (I was single then). Good work, J.M.!

DARPA (the people who brought you the Internet) have invested $40 million into growing flu vaccines in specially modified tobacco plants.

If successful, it will be much easier to produce in large quanity than egg-cultured vaccines, not to mention safe for people (like my father) who have fatal allergies to eggs.

The only question is what they'll call the antiflu pipe tobacco blend, when the perfect name, 'Country Doctor,' is already taken.

One of my Dunhill billiards (ca. 1964) hit the floor yesterday morning. Just one of those accidents that happen from time to time. Nothing to worry about, right??

Well, as I was smoking it this am, a nice fissure appeared on the front and back of the bowl as it heated up. Still smokable but.....

I am trying to think positively however- means I need to find a replacement!!!

I strongly urge those who've never cellared tobacco to start doing so. It is one of the best ways to insure that you will have all of your favorite blends at your disposal, just in case our wonderful government (insert sarcasm) does something foolish.

These are the reasons I choose to cellar:

1. Rising prices

2. Outrageous taxation

3. Favorite blends may disappear or change drastically

4. Age brings out the best in some blends

5. The freedom to purchase tobacco online ...

Here is the first of what I expect will be many sketchy iPhone photos from spring training. As a photographer, I make a good writer.

It's Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz throwing in the bullpen just outside the clubhouse. Clay chucked his third pitch over the fence by accident.

The sun is out and it's warming up. The players are getting ready to stretch.

The stamping's a bit weak on the bottom and there's some pretty heavy oxidation on the stem, although the bit is still pretty crisp. That's why I'm on here, I think I'm gonna let it go as is rather than risk damage in restoring it myself. Any ideas on the value of this? Anyone ...

The Pipe; Claudio Cavicchi “C” Canadian

I tend to avoid posting pipes or tobacco for two reasons, first, the senses are so subjective that I always feel like anything I write is more for the sake of writing than to bring anything of value to given brand, second, I am at a point in my smoking habits, that is truly rare for me to happen upon anything I don’t love, that the reviews I have written are more or less love letters to whoever created what I was trying to review.
