She never complained once about Ward's pipe smoking.

Barbara Billingsley, the actress embedded in the American consciousness
as mom June Cleaver from the classic sitcom "Leave It to Beaver," died
at her home in Santa Monica on Saturday. She was 94.

Speaking of beavers maybe Oregon state can win one for her. It's 21-21 right now in the 3rd against the Huskies. Good game. Smile

Thank you for sharing this, Hermit! When I read it, I was shocked because I was unaware of her death. I grew up watching "The Beav." And, I always loved how "June" quickly and lovingly ran blocker between the boys and "Ward." Her death truly saddens me. In her passing, we've lost yet another television family icon from a much simpler time!!! Sad

Farewell, Mrs. Cleaver... thank you for gracing our lives!!! sunny

A pattern of behavior that Quigley (Harvard Prof.) noted was endemic in the students he taught there and was responsible for the patently dysfunctional "Catcher in the Rye" personality adolescent.

Yep, June Cleaver had no choice but learn this language in order to converse with Wally's kids. The Beav's kids were too slow of thought and speech to pick it up. Raised to be a "proper" lady, Mrs. Cleaver cared nothing for the way "Jive" slaughtered the English Language. However, she loved her grandchildren more than she loved her native tongue! Combining her perfectionist tendencies with the driving force of her love for her grandchildren, she mastered the language in less than 48 hours!! June Cleaver... mild mannered, kindhearted, loving mother and devoted wife... astonishing super hero grandmother!!!

Update: Beehive Sentinel and Factual News, Front Page, April 1, 2010... Completely awestruck by the speed with which his mother was able to skillfully master the "Jive" language, today The Beav finally commented, "WOW, mom!!" Realizing the deep cogitation required for her now 50+ year old youngest son to formulate such an expression of his deepest thoughts, June lovingly replied with a smile, and pat on his head, and said, "Thank you Beaver! Keep practicing... you'll learn it... I know you will!!"
lol! lol! lol!

"You know what blood looks like in black and white? Shadows.." (John Prine, Lake Marie)

Anyway.. it's sad to hear of her passing, but I'm glad she lived such a long life.

And now Tom Bosley's gone.. yet another classic..

No doubt!!! I always enjoyed watching him as Howard Cunningham... father of Richard ("Richie") on Happy Days. And, though I loathe infomercials, he made the SMC ones sound inviting... as inviting as an infomercial can be. Rolling Eyes

"Mr. C."... as a loving father to Richie and Jonie, devoted husband to Marion, mentor to Fonzie, and committed small business (hardware store) owner, you were a great television icon! I thank you for gracing my television screen! And, I will miss you!!! Kudos to you, sir!!
cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers
