My brother sent me this last week. Makes fascinating reading. The GDP of US states compared to other countries. Here you go:

1 California, it is often said, would be the world’s sixth- or seventh-largest economy if it was a separate country. Actually, that would be the eighth, according to this map, as France (with a GDP of $2,15 trillion) is #8 on the aforementioned list.
2. Texas’ economy is significantly smaller, exactly half of California’s, as its GDP compares to that of Canada (#10, $1,08 trillion).
3. Florida also does well, with its GDP comparable to Asian tiger South Korea’s (#13 at $786 billion).
4. Illinois – Mexico (GDP #14 at $741 billion)

Does that figure for California include an estimate of the value all the cannabis? Even with Hollywood and Silicon Valley, that seems high.

Cool post muddler. My state (commonwealth) made #13. I drove across the US as fast as I could once. I started on an Island off the coast of N. Carolina called Ocracoke. I drove 20 hours, slept 8, drove 20, slept 8, drove another 20 and i was there. 60 hours at around 70 mph. Big place.

Very interesting, brother Muddler!!

<<<<14. Tennessee – Saudi Arabia (GDP #25 at $286 billion)>>>>

I find this #14'th seat for my home state to be particularly interesting. To hear our state officials tell the story of our financial position, one would believe that our Volunteer state would fall somewhere around the 675'th position behind the poorest third world country on the planet!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

I checked Colorado and a couple of other states I am interested in and the numbers checked with the most up-to-date information I could find on the Web...

Colorado isn't California...
Canada has been on a tear... The Irish Tiger looks more like a house cat...and no way those numbers for OPEC Nations are post $100 per bbl...
Its an interesting thong to toss around.. and at one time that was the case..but I just don't believe it is now.

Being from Texas wouldn't trade with anyone in California for sure. Love it here and been a good many other places, but you can find most any climate or land type here in Texas and if you don't like the weather, wait a little and it will change, LOL!

I live on a lake that has 1200 miles of shoreline and is 65-70 miles long in the middle of National Forrest so I do live in Gods country! Oh and just for kicks about 25 mile drive I can put my boat into another big lake, Sam Rayburn which it pretty large it self.

Don't need much else other than a good pipe and some good tobacco with my rods and reels in the boat.

Gone Fishing!

PS forgot to say have been to South Africa in 1983, beautiful place, but didn't see a lot more than Durban and around there.

Skip give me a shout next time you're looking to come way down South and let me introduce you to Cape Town. It will rock your world for sure. It's not known as the Fairest Cape for nothing, just ask my fellow South Africans here on the BoB.
