My contract was up on my phone. My son had given me the phone and it was several years old so I figured I would get a new one.I went to the phone place. As I walked in a very nice young fellow asked if he could help me.I explained my situation, and asked if he had a good quality phone that just made phone calls.Thats when everyone in the place began laughing.About 45 minutes later I was over a hundred dollars lighter in my wallet.I now have a phone that does everything but fry eggs though...I know that young folks are used to these hand held computers that also act as phones.I'm 68 years old though, and I'm getting a head ache trying to figure out how this thing works.

Good one Bruins Laughing

I'm more in line with you NC. I use my phone for phone calls and texting of course and my event planner \ alarm clock.

I do occassionally take some pictures with it, but they all suck. Anything beyond that and I'm lost.

But hey, at least I use the bluetooth feature Very Happy

Say what you will about the "old fashioned" phones, but mine is better *as a cell phone* than the fancy ones. Sure they can browse the internet and take pictures, but mine is sturdy, light, almost never drops calls, has lasted for years, and the battery can last for 4-5 days between charges. It also cost $18 Smile.

When I had to replace mine, because of the change to all digital,
the gal at the store asked what features I wanted.

" Just one " I said. " NUMBERS LARGE ENOUGH FOR ME TO SEE!!! " Shocked

Like the rest of South Africa, I just moved to a Blackberry. Frankly, it was because the keypad would make SMS's faster. I hate the complexity of the thing (OK, maybe I haven't tried). Hell, all I want is a phone to mumble into with my pipe in my mouth. Whatever happened to simplicity? Or have I truly reached Old Fart status?

Muddler, I can't figure out why the hell they named a phone after produce. A bluetooth? I was blissfully ignorant until recently being told what that non-word means.

I'm in my twenties, so I think old fart has little to do with it. A phone should be a phone, your computer should be on your desk at home. While we're at it, your phone should be on a horiziontal surface at home. But, I got a cell phone because it means one less bill with the company I use, and I carry it just because I'm paying $42 a month. It's just a flip phone, not a cute little keyboard, so I'm keeping it because flip phones will surely become obsolete in favor of the latter.

I dunno, liking what's familiar and what makes sense can't be ignorant or silly.

Phone technology has come lightyears ahead in just the last 5 years. Once you figure out all you can do on these new phones it is amazing. I have owned several BlackBerries and I am now on the Android platform. No turning back for me. I hardly get on my pc anymore......that's mainly because the wife is on there all the time though. The thing i hate about the whole thing is the extra charges..like the 16% tax on cell phone bills...the internet package charge..the activation fee..the 70% restocking fee if you decide the phone they "gave" you sucks. If i didnt need the bells and whistles for work id have a trac phone.

My phone is about 6 years old, it doesn't do anything but make calls. But it's never failed me! No texting, no internet, no camera, nothing. It doesn't even have a vibrate mode, that although I kinda wish it had! Rolling Eyes

I have to agree with the anti cell phone crowd. I hate the darn things. I have one for emergencies but never use it. I just take my wifes hand-me-downs. And texting....what the heck? If I want to talk to someone (which I usually don't) I'll call them on my ancient cell phone. Laughing It frustrates my friends and family because I never answer my phone. Heck, half the time I don't even have it on. What did we ever do before them?

I'm 20 and still fumble with my girlfriend's smartphone. Mine is just a basic phone I use for calling and texting. Never really saw the need for anything more. I got a computer for the rest of that stuff. I don't like to pretend I'm more important than I am and thinking I need to check my facing book every ten minutes.

I have a Droid (which I'm making this post with) and I have to say that it can be a blessing and a curse. The curse, like all cell phones, is that you're always connected to the world. But when your out and about and you need to know something its awesome. It came in useful for my recent antique store pipe score. I was unfamiliar with GBD so I popped online and got info the I needed. Saw on ebay that the same pipe was selling for more than what they wanted at the store so I knew before I bought it that I wasn't over paying.

Tech-wise it's crazy to think that my phone is 30x faster, has 64x more ram, and 200x more storage than my first computer.
