This is for WA residents but it would be nice to see more legislation like this come up...

http://www.cigarwa.com/

If you or anyone you know live in WA, I'd encourage you to support this by signing and voting for Initiative 1016.

It will be interesting to see the results of these efforts.

Wisconsin smokers formed a similar association several months ago, and although it just got off the ground, it may have influenced the state legislators to reduce the tobacco tax increase from 40% to 25%.

Hopefully more of us will support these organizations.

Totally agree! It's time to start fighting back. The anti-smoking nazis here in OK are trying to ram thru a total ban on smoking in any "public" place. Even cigar bars and tobacco stores/shops! Uh, just how does one have a cigar bar with no cigars? Their rationale is that's it bad for the employees who are forced to work in a "secondhand" smoke environment. Oh well...as we used to say in the military...FIGHT"S ON!!!!!! FTRPLT

There has been some buzz over I-1016 on some of the local political radio and TV shows. All positive so far. It's not very encompassing but it's something.

When they start to miss the money from tobacco tax and sales they will start to realize why. Unfortunately it takes along time because they have so much of it LOL. I don't think it will happen in my life time annd alot of damage can be done before they start to change. We have to start now and be a lot more agressive with it. Once it starts in one state it will spread but we do have to start. Sorry about the ramble but its not the first time and most likely won't be the last cyclops bounce sunny sunny

Can't you knuckle heads see this is for the childrens good?

Its obvious that you don't like children, thank dawg for us anti-joy police looking out for children everywhere, sheesh if it wasn't for us children would be forced to grow up in those terrible enviroments like found in the 50's,60's,and 70's. It makes me shudder. Children being abused, drunken fathers billowing clouds of death in homes, women being forced to stay home out of the job market. Those poor abused children not being allowed Mcdonalds salads and disallowed from myspace and Wii, the horror. You Nazi's should be ashamed for hating children. Its obvious your not intelligent enough to see that we are vastly smarter than you and have need of taking care of you.

Maybe one of the resident self proclaimed, left leaning brainiacs will weigh in on this and give us some insight into the anti-smoking mentality.

I am having a hard time getting my mind around why folks that participate in our hobby support those that are so adamant about banning smoking.

Louisville and Jefferson Co Ky (along with a Ton of places here in the state) passed anti-tobacco ordinaces. Why because sound bite emotion filled speechs work. Tobacco users are a minority,a devided minority at that. They use the same tactics employed against firearms on tobacco use. Raise taxs on cigs? The chewers, dippers, pipers and cigar smokers don't fight it because it doesn't affect them. Ban cigars and pipes in what few places still allow cigs? The cig smokers don't care it doesn't affect them. Truth is the War is lost, the battle now is for survival, we either fight or give up what we love altogether.
Kentucky,Tennessee,Virginia, and the Carolinas all have anti-tobacco regulations now, and these are the Tobacco States.
The Wine users,Chocolate users, hell even the fashion industry is going to suffer the same fight...they just haven't realized it yet.

Think I'm wrong? Kentucky passed legislation last year or the year before making it borderline impossible for the KY Winerys to sell their wine. The morons in Frankfort didn't dream it up themselves, someone was behind it.
Remeber all the ruckus raised by the fat-nazis? That's just the start.
Notice now they are kickin folk off of airplanes for how they dress. Watch out its coming.
I've said it before its not a left/right thing. Its control freaks marching in the army of the Power Mad, each little soldier imagining when that glorious day comes of Total Control they will be the Generals aide de camp,to stupid to realize they to will be controled.

I apologize for trying to crack jokes on your topic J, and I apologize for the rant. People if ya know ANYONE in Washington inform them.

Great rant PB!

We are moving closer and closer towards fascism! Call me a nut if you like but the hand writing is on the wall. Will a lot of us here see it fully instituted in our life time....maybe not, but if it isn't stopped our children and grandchildren surely will!

Fascism - Often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

2: A tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control.

Mussolini defined fascism as being a collectivistic ideology in opposition to socialism, liberalism, democracy and individualism. He wrote in The Doctrine of Fascism:

Anti-individualistic, the fascist conception of life stresses the importance of the State and accepts the individual only insofar as his interests coincide with those of the State, which stands for the conscience and the universal will of man as a historic entity.... The fascist conception of the State is all-embracing; outside of it no human or spiritual values can exist, much less have value.... Fascism is therefore opposed to that form of democracy which equates a nation to the majority, lowering it to the level of the largest number.... We are free to believe that this is the century of authority, a century tending to the 'right', a Fascist century. If the nineteenth century was the century of the individual we are free to believe that this is the 'collective' century, and therefore the century of the State.

A sense of overwhelming crisis beyond reach of traditional solutions; 2. belief one’s group is the victim, justifying any action without legal or moral limits; 3. need for authority by a natural leader above the law, relying on the superiority of his instincts; 4. right of the chosen people to dominate others without legal or moral restraint; 5. fear of foreign `contamination.

Just Pipes and PB, you guys nailed it. When they realize (as they already are) that tobacco tax revenues are decreasing they won't decide to repeal any bans, they'll just move on to the next "evil" on the list, eg: alcohol, trans-fat, SUVs, etc. It's seek and destroy, there's no going back unless we actually fight back!

Can you imagine that generations of the human race fought starvation, pestilence, disease, invading armies, and nature so that we can now cower in fear of something like TRANS-FAT! Evil or Very Mad
