Me again! This is one of the droids you're looking for. Old and fat. Stop by and say hi. I can be often found stumbling around mumbling to myself. Or sitting in the tent. I am down 60 pounds since November. But still old and fat. Laughing

I might actually be able to make this. I'm driving back east for a short trip at some point in may, could make it that weekend that I head out. Get to St. Charles on Friday, maybe meet up with some BoBers for dinner, do the show on Saturday, and drive back to Philadelphia on Sunday. Or move it over one day if it looks like BoB members will be there on Sunday.

Actually, most of my mother's family was from St. Charles, so I would like to see the town anyway.

We'll see how it plays out but I'm interested.

They have a welcome buffet Friday evening that is paid for by sponsors that is always great eating. I think Smoking Pipes had a celebration there last year also. That was a late night event and I am usually a early-to-bed person. But they had a blast. They had tables set up in the parking lot next to the smoking tent the next morning because of the huge numbers there that evening.

Don't forget, I am sure it's been said before, many of the makers will have sold all their stock by the time the show actually starts. Pre-show deals. Roaming the evenings when many have the wares displayed in their rooms. This is also a gathering place for dealers that meet up with their distribution network. So a room may be closed for a time while dealers do their business. Just come back later during their open times and they will be happy to see you.

Food. There is great food to be had at the resort. And around the area. I didn't leave the resort last year till check out time. Sunday morning was the only difficult time because what was normally open, opened later that day. Maybe an hour. At some point the bar, sandwiches and stuff, will be available in the tent. I recall that was later on Wednesday, so for lunch we had to head towards the resort area.

Can you save money at the Chicago show? Yes. I stay at the resort to save time and the hassles of driving. But in pricing some of the other motels, I ain't gonna save much. I know one maker who packs most of his food and brings it with him. Saves on eating out costs. But then, you miss out on the great onion soup. Or other item that you may really enjoy. If you have family in the area that will put you up, then the hassles of some of the traffic are not so bad. Mentioning the show saved me $9 a night and got me the room I wanted. They have blocks saved for the show. But there are plenty of taxes and the resort fee.

Speaking of traffic. I come up from central IL on I39 and approach from the west. Longer drive with much less traffic than if I tried to come up say RT59 from I55. I will never do that again except maybe very very early in the morning.

I only wish I could, too far from Central Arkansas and too busy teaching. No good pipe shows down here, unfortunately. Sad

Looking forward to it! Any and all "Brothers" be sure to say hello if you recognize me.

There will be a handful of NY Pipe Club guys coming along with me. I'll be there on Thurs. afternoon with my buddy Dom.

Can't wait!

If someone wouldn't mind taking some photos of Yuri Aksenov's (Yakslon's) table for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I really wanted to go this year specifically to see and purchase some of his works, but sadly will not be able to attend.

Man, I wish I could. Crying or Very sad

The list of people I'd like to meet is long.

Repairmen are in a different situation than carvers, though, in that they can't bring stuff to display/sell. Meaning the expense is a double dip: the cost of the trip, lodging, and food plus the lost income of not working for more than a week.

Normally I'd just sell one of the several hundred ten carat vvs blue whites I keep in a shoebox, but can't find the damn thing lately. (Hope I didn't throw it out by accident. Yikes.)

Oh God, now that I know Yakslon will be there I will have to be extremely careful with my wallet! If I am not careful I'll wind up spending it all at his table!

I am looking forward to seeing/meeting him and I know there's at least one pipe on his table with my name on it!!!

This old Buzzard will be attending also. Please look me up or pull me aside and introduce yourself if I don't see you first. I'll have many new and estate pieces for sale along with the other 200+ sellers. EGADS

Let's see what those seminars really teach ya! I would have loved to go, it would have been the perfect pinnacle to my first year as a pipe smoker! Perhaps next year will be a bit more accommodating.

Not the best pics. Lets see what the auto-resize does with them. I may have to manually fix them later.

Purchases. The Mephisto was very inexpensive. I know, I need more light on the Duca Pipes morta when using the iPhone. Generous size at 19mm bore. Largest and lightest of the three similar he had at the show. I have been looking for a few years for one that suited me. I forced myself to see all the tables at the pre-show before buying any pipe. Mistake. I came back to the 2nd table I saw only to find a nice Chinese buyer purchasing at least 2/3 of the maker's table. Shocked Shocked Shocked I cannot blame him as the work was mighty fine.

sunny
