Been smoking a pipe for the past six years and browsing your tobacco topics for a few days and figured I'd better register and post soon since you have a nice informative forum here.

Oh I guess I should give some sort of smoking background as well. I like darker cigars when I can afford em, Partagas are probably my favorites at the moment but I'm missing the huge cigar selections that I had before moving up here - a few shops with cases but no more walk-in humidors. I enjoy a cigarette on occasion but normally more as a nostalgia thing than anything else, Camels or Nat Sherman. Since I'm here though my favorite is probably obvious, I like pipes the best! Started off with OTC aeros like most of us but after taking a plunge and ordering some Esoterica a while back it's like a switch went on in my head and I need to learn everything I can about all the various types out there.

Let's see, so far I have...
Esoterica Margate (current favorite), And So To Bed (good until the bottom of my tin and out of nowhere it started tasting like pure salt in every pipe I smoked it in), Pembroke, Tillbury (first full Virginia and I like it, though I think I prefer Englishes), and an eBay tin of Penzance which I probably overpaid on but I'd really like to try it and use it as a reference point even if I can't afford to get it regularly.
Squadron Leader - I like it a lot, though the Turkish tobacco kind of reminds me too much of Camels if I'm not dedicating all of my attention to smoking it to find more complexities in it.
Bob's Chocolate Flake - when I first bought it last year the soapy Lakeland taste was too overwealming but it seems to have worn off now and it's pretty tasty stuff even if I can't really find any chocolate in it.

I've got a huge wishlist at this point, but near the top of my list I really want some potent rope tobacco and anything by GLP.

Welcome. Your "salt" question (on another thread) has me perplexed, as I've never heard of it. Please let us know if you find it with other tobaccos. Everyone's body chemistry is different and we all react to the variety of blends differently. There are one or two OTC blends that taste like wet oak leaves cased in rubber cement to me, but are favorites of others on the board.

If I ever run into it again, I'll mail somebody a sample. As it is though I can still tell a bit in my pipe despite a really intense cleaning and multiple smokes with different tobacco. I'm sure it spoiled in some strange way, it's the only theory that makes sense to me...
