PostSubject: A former member returns.   Mon Sep 12, 2011 3:21 pm

Hello all,
Many of you may remember me as EJinVA, I had asked to be removed at a point in the past, and have now asked to be allowed back into the forum. Various reasons compelled me to quit, and various reasons compell me to return. This is my attempt to explain whats been up with me for the past several months.
For several years now I had been feeling as though I were loosing my mind, I even joked about it from time to time here, not really understanding what was happening. I found pipe smoking to be a great way to relax and calm my mind, I also had been drinking more and more, not to the point of alcoholism but I was finding i needed it more, mainly to unwind from the stresses of the day and to push away the strange feeling (pain?) in my abdomen (thought is was an ulcer-deal with it later). Anyway, in late January of this year I was terribly ill feeling so went to our family doctor, I described my symptoms and with a quick test had ordered me immediately to the hospital to get my liver checked. The results were not good, full blown cirrhosis of the liver, the doctor started quizzing me on how much i drank, and asking about any blood transfusions I have had in the past, and ran a few more tests, which confirmed that I had Hepitatis C from a blood transfusion in 1989, (they started testing blood for it in about 92). So now I've got to start the fight against the hep C which can further do damage to the liver, so within a few years (so they tell me) I'll probably need a liver transplant. I feel pretty good now, I'm on diruetics and blood pressure meds and am on a restricted sodium diet, although my guts still ache from time to time. I had no idea how much our liver does, it's like a big filter for your blood, keeping out bad chemicals and passing on the good stuff. It seems the feeling I had of loosing my mind was one of the effects of cirrhosis (google Hepatic Encephalopathy for more).
Needless to say I can't drink anymore and smoking is also a NO NO, and now more then ever I need the money to pay the deductibles for all the Doctor visits and testing so far, and for meds etc in the future. So in the coming month or so I'll be inventorying and offering my cellared tobacco for sale, I'll get into the details for that later in the trading post.

Good to have you back buddy... you've been missed.

I guess this season we will be betting Deductibles instead of Tins on the Football games.

Glad you're feeling better. I've always heard that a vegetarian diet was good for the liver and assisted in fighting Hep. C. I'm sure that you have received all the advice you want to hear for awhile. Thumbs up!

Was wondering where you have been Eric. Sorry to hear of the complications from a transfusion, but glad to know that you are on the road to recovery. My thoughts are with you and I am certain that you will come out of this as good as new.

Always difficult to hear news like this, but it sounds like you're dealing with it as positively as you can. Stay strong and take it a day at a time.

My very best T&Vibes go out to you EJ.

Cheers,

RR
