Not much talk of hats in "the Haberdashery." Anybody have favorites? I love a good quality hat, but around these parts there's not much to find unless you're looking for a Stetson.

Fedoras, usually wool type. Not the trendy alternative mall kids type, the classic type.

I've been a cloth cap and similar caps since I entered college so many decades ago, but I have two trilbys on order -- will have to see if I like them!

That's what I like to hear. Cool

Though fortunately, the "crappy fedora trend" is really fading fast. Thank goodness. That means I can start sporting my good ones again without being looked at like the old man trying too hard. Classless brats... heheheh Laughing

I hear ya! That's why I've been steering away from them for awhile. Now that the trend is waning, I can start wearing them again. You guys know of any good e-tailers to go through for quality hats?

If you know your hat size and have eBay, it's a great place for hats. Also, Etsy.

New, budget-but-good hats, these guys have treated me well:

Believe it or not, Craigslist and flea markets have proven my best overall place for hats. I have gotten hats practically new for $5 - $10.

When I was a young punk I liked to wear various hats........probably much the same way some young punks do today: because its different.

Now that I'm nearly a certified old fart, I've got the hankering again. My folicles have abandoned ship so I need shade in the summer and warmth in the winter.

Barmah hat company makes some that I really like.

http://www.barmahhats.com.au/index.asp

This one has been my favorite and most comfy summer hat, minus the chinstrap. Hats 1057BE_w_text

I'm just about ready to order their all leather version for a winter hat. The quality and fit is really good from this company. These may be a bit "trendy" in the materials department, but they've been extremely durable and long lasting, rain, snow, or shine.

A few years ago, I purchased a dark grey Dubliner Tweed Hat from the Shandon Hat Company in Ireland. http://hatsfromireland.com/ The hat is very well made, lightweight but warm and almost waterproof yet holds its shape well. They provided hassle free service and prompt shipping. The hat is much better looking than their photo and no green tint either.

Another company that offers a wide variety is the Berkley Hat Company.
http://www.berkeleyhat.com/irwotwhaandc.html I haven't done busuiness with them but seem to be a very professional outfit.

Great links, I think that I need a Harris Tweed from Berkeley hat.
Josjor: as a bald guy, I love a cool summer hat.
I forgot to dig out my old waxed hat mentioned earlier, and it is raining like cats & dogs today....

That Barmah cooler hat is the best I've ever found. The brin is plenty wide and the top of the hat isn't mesh so you still get sun protection on top. The canvas brim and top is waxed so if fares well in the rain. It's crushable, something that is important to me as I often ride a motorcycle to camping and hiking destinations so I need it to be packable.

First 'real' hat (as opposed to cap, etc.)

Looks funny to me, but that's likely me, not the hat. . . .

I love the look of newsboys and flatcaps, however, my unusually large head (which is odd because it doesnt look very big) only fits in large to extra large hats and i never look right in the ones that fit me.
I recently got a fiddler cap by Aegean that ive been wearing almost every day.
its kind of like a greek fisherman without all the decorations on the brim.

Finding a hat that looks good on me is something of a challenge, but I think I look best a flat cap...the trilby is a good runner up for me, but I just feel it looks too spiffy relative to my typically casual dress.

For me , I ALWAYS wear a hat.. Always have.
My younger days were black Resistols.
Then , I made the change to Silverbelly's back in the early 90's.
Stetsons were the norm,,till I had this hat , custom made for me.
Its a 10X Silverbelly, from "MadHatters in Twin Bridges Mt"
Sheila is a real nice gal, and knows how to build a hat.

Hats Self_010

I had just got onto a ranch down there, and ordered this hat, I wanted to have for New years.
But, with the move costing so much, i didnt have the cash by new years ,,, I went in to tell her, I was sorry I didnt have the cash by the date I said I would. That I only had $100.00. (The hat was $250.00),,, she said no problem, and insisted I take the hat for new years, and I could pay it off in feb of that year.

I was new in that town, and she only knew me from the fitting,,, You just dont meet people that'll trust another person like that.
She is an Awesome Gal.

Great hat and picture Dusty Roundup!

I just watched "The Cowboys" for the first time in many years, those boys had some nice hats. John Wayne made a comment about their new hats, something to the effect of "they must have scoured the whole county to get all those hats".

One of the BEST production ALL FUR FELT hats made today are those made by Akubra in Australia. David Morgan up in Seattle is the US importer and I've worn 'em for over 30 years now getting my first Bushman model from him back in 1972. Here's my latest Bushman I got 3 yeras ago as my old one was getting a bit" long in the tooth " so to speak:

Hats Bushman1-1

and here's his website for ya to take a look at:

http://www.davidmorgan.com/index.php?cPath=2

I've aquired 8 since my first one ( different styles Razz ) and wear one EVERY day Razz

That's a Campdraft in my avitar. It is an OZ only model that was made as a Stetson Open Road back in the 50s/60s when Akubra made them under license for Stetson. It's now still made as an OZ only model called the Campdraft. I got it about 5 years ago when it was still offered in that dark brown color. They are very similar hats, the Bushman only comes in one color and has a crown 1/4" shorter and a brim 1/2" wider and is a DM exclusive though it has been made by Akubra since around 1912 or so. They still make "...fan the fire, water the horse" quality hats!!
