PostSubject: Somthings Fishy with eBay Seller   Sun Dec 18, 2011 9:37 pm

I won a lot of pipes today that had a humidor and small pipe rack with it. I requested a total from the seller telling them to keep the humidor and rack and to just send me the pipes and recalculate shipping and re-invoice me showing the change.
The seller responds with, "2 of the pipes got broke so I'm canceling the sale"
I responded and asked which two because it may not matter because I was only interested in a few of the pipes but, to not throw the pieces away because I may be able to repair them or use them for parts.
His next response 4-5 hours later was a cancellation notice from eBay that I had to respond to and agree or not agree. So I checked I did not agree and sent him another message regarding the invoice to reflect the lack of humidor and rack and which pipes were broken.
What say you to this?

I'm thinking he's thinking they went too cheap and he wants to back out or someone contacted him and told him he'd give him more.
It was 8 pipes with humidor and a small 4 pipe rack.
Heck, I told him to keep the humidor and rack and its not my fault they only went for $22. He was charging $30 for shipping so if you ask me he cut his own throat doing that.

If I'm not mistaken, a seller has the right to cancel a sale, even after bidding has been closed. It has happened to me several times in the past.

If you know much about how ebay operates, you might not be surprised. If he relists the item later, they will collect fees for the same item again, just as they did this time. Ebay is just like Walmart, their motivation for everything they do is profit.

When people do this sort of thing, they should be "outted" IMHO. I had a well known seller cancel a no reserve auction at the very last second. I contacted him, knowing I was the highest bidder, and got a song and dance that "he wasn't in this to lose money". My response was, if you're going to sell w/o a reserve, you better be ready to sell to the highest bidder.

I also kind of told him that our conversation was going to be posted on every pipe board that I could find and I would do everything to see that E-Bay boots him. He sent me a "second chance offer" for the exact amount of my bid at the moment he cancelled the auction. Since then, he's been a "straight shooter" as far as I can see. Sometimes it pays to get a little nasty.............. Twisted Evil

Yep, probably a shady seller trying to pull a fast one.

You can waste your time playing around with him and eBay, and get questionable goods or just get your money back and move on. The latter option is usually much, much better. You'll never get rid of asshats on eBay, but you can always get your money back and find something else.

Yes, I agree with you ALL but, I'm a person of principles and am also a seller on eBay with over a 1000 positives, no negatives and it just irritates me to no end how people can have no values or integrity what so ever.
I'll let him have his pipes and withdraw and hope some day he becomes a man.

*laughs* So you'll have your returned money in one hand, and your hopes for him in the other... you see where I'm going with this... Cool

It's a jungle out there, might as well keep the stress for things that matter. Like road rage on the freeway--always a fun past-time. Razz Razz Razz

Well, he's decided to send me the pipes. I reckon he figures I'll cause him too much trouble if he doesn't or he finally figure out what integrity means. LOL!

At this point I don't care about the pipes so much. Only that hopefully he has learned something. That no matter what comes your way in life having integrity and doing whats right no matter how much it hurts is what a man does.

But I reckon I wont really know that till the pipes show up and he refunds me the difference in shipping. And if he don't, well I've learn another lesson. Never do business him again.

And Kyle, I know all about the jungle and its inhabitants, we're no stranger there. That's why I prefer to be a hermit. 80% of the so called people I have had contact with weren't worth a hoot in hell.

Well, I got the pipes in today and I must say I'm pretty happy. $22+ shipping got me a good deal I think. There is a Savinelli bent rusticated, Pioneer meerschaum with a g & g autograph on it, a Custom Built, Ropp, MGM Rock,Towanda 14kt band, Van Roy and a Forecaster. The ONLY broken ones are the Ropp, has a hairline in shank and the Towanda Hair line in shank repaired with gold band. Now starts the fun of restoring them all. Its been a very good birthday for me.

Yes, you got a good deal.

Glad it all worked out. You were in quite a fuss over it all! Smile Those "pipe lot" deals usually are filled with total crap--you did well. Have fun cleanin'. Cool

You said you were only interested in a couple of those pipes. Maybe you are not interested in the full bent. I like it if your not. And you have some good looking pipes in that lot.

Plumb, I'm sorry, That would be one of the ones I plan on keeping out of the 8 because I've never had a Savinelli .
One somehow didn't get in the photo, a olive wood (I believe) Tawanda (Never heard of it).
I'm keeping the Pioneer Meer, Full bent Sav, The MGM Rock and maybe the Custom Bilt.
The rest I'll most likely give away after I clean them up.
And yes, like Kyle said earlier, I've got lucky with the lot. Most the time I'll buy a lot for only one pipe.
This one went under the radar evidently.

Well, ya know that just might happen for ya. That is one I'll be getting rid of.
So after I clean'em up a bit I'm going to most likely post them here on the forum for free bee's.
Now that one there as I said before has got a little hair line in the shank but,
doesn't seem to hinder the stem from having a tight fit.

Very nice work!

Is the fifth one down in the photo the Tawanda (OliveWood?) that you mentioned previously?

I like the look of it!

Cheers!

Yes, so am I.
I just realized one more is missing in the photo the MGM Rock but, it cleaned up just as good as the others did.

Very awesome deal you got and I am glad it came through for you. E bay can be a pain at times. Some people just don't know what Honest is. 22 bucks was a great price even with the ship cost.

Thank you James, I know what you mean about some people not knowing what the word "Honest" means. A lot have got it in the head that "MONEY" means more and "INTEGRITY" is just a word.

I left them positive feedback and at no surprise to me they haven't returned the favor.
They need to understand when you put something up for auction its not always a win win and its not anyone's fault but there own that a item goes for less then you want it to. And when it sells the seller has to go by the same rules that is expected of the buyer.
