As I sit here at the computer there's a full cigarette box to my left and several cartons of cigarettes under the desk (my wifes). It became my habit to grab one and light up while I was wrestling with some rubber room bullshit,,and before I knew it I was smoking at the keyboard constantly putting an end to my 5+ years being cigarette free.(except a few while drinking beer occasionally) This has been going on for 8-10 months and I noticed I'm more out of breath and food tastes like crap. Even the cigarettes taste like crap. These damn reservation smokes she keeps buying for $10 a carton just suck. The "roll your own" she was making were downright tasty, but the rez is cheaper, although wraunchy. The resolution to quit these damn things became easy due to the shitty taste. Oh I've picked them up and stuffed em in my mouth out of habit,,,but put them down again. I'll give it a couple more days before I light up a pipe to give my tastebuds a vacation.

11 days now without cigarettes.,,,no problem

Well, I'm pullin' for ya with the cigs... tobacco's better with pipes (and more enjoyable) than that addict pull of a cig anyway... I look forward to when I can have a pipe... one, two, three days down the road if time permits? No problem. Kind of like looking forward to that Friday beer/drink once the week is over. Totally different experience, now that I've been through both.

$10 a carton? affraid I still have a habit of smoking cigarettes but I pay $143 for two cartons for the month (Camel non-filters). It would benefit my pocket if nothing else to quit the dad burn things. There hard to kick even with smoking a pipe, I find as long as I have a pack in my pocket, its easier to go to then a pipe. Gotta start leaving them in the house when I go outside.
I know the only way to kick them is to just stop completely but after smoking for over 40 years its just not that simple. I wish you luck in kicking Ms.Nicotine out the door. Not your wife.

I quit 4 packs a day of Malboro Reds about 23 years ago. Cold turkey. It can be done. I cannot even imagine what that would cost me today.

No offense intended but, I'd have to smoke 4 packs of Marlboro's to get the nicotine from one pack of Camel non-filters. I've tried smoking other brands Marlboro included and its like smoking air.

Cigarettes are extremely addictive, much more so than cigars and pipes, at least for me. I think that smoking even one, if you've quit, is like taking that first drink after you've quit. The addiction lies in wait and before you know it, you've bought a pack, had 15 drinks in a day.

I've quit and stayed quit many times, sometimes for 5-10 years. But right now I'm smoking cigarettes.

The good news is that once I make up my mind, I stop; the bad news is that I go back to them.
