Two Hummers Empty
PostSubject: Two Hummers   Two Hummers EmptySun Mar 04, 2012 6:22 pm

No...not THAT kind of Hummer!

These are two of my pipes that are likely among the largest I've ever had. I've hardly ever smoked 'em, but they do really, really well the times that I've indulged

The Poker is a Peder Jepersen...marked P. Jepersen / Denmark / Hand Made / 5. I purchased this new. The rim on this forms a nice convex arc. I call this my Great Dane.

The full bent is marked...Mastro de Paja / Fatta A Mano / 3A / 1981. I think the dot and the ring are sterling as the ring bears a very faint oval, in which a hallmark might have once shown. The briar and the stem both bear the Mastra de Paja insignia. The rim on this is a smoothed plateaux. I purchased this as an estate item.

Photos below. Note that at some point, likely sooner rather than later, these two will be up on the Trading Post...bills to pay...mouths to feed...etc.

That's a pretty gaunt poker--I dig it. They're both winners. Cool

"Gaunt"?

gaunt (gônt). adj. gaunt·er, gaunt·est. 1. Thin and bony; angular. 2. Emaciated and haggard; drawn. 3. Bleak and desolate; barren.

Hmmm.

lol

But isn't gaunt a term reserved for living systems, humans, etc. as opposed to inanimate objects. Well, I guess we get pretty anthropomorphic about our pipes on occasion. I just don't think it's very 'healthy'.

lol

Why are you picking-nit on my choice of words? How many pronouns of "her" have I seen toward a pipe from guys around here? Laughing I appreciate your awkward attempt at keeping my language skills honest. Now, shut up and smoke your gaunt and rubenesque pipes up there. Laughing Cool

I am tempted by the "Rubenesque" above. So what are we supposed to do, check this site every seven minutes until you deign to offer up the goods?

Both fine specimens, you may have to sport the gauntlet to handle that gaunt poker!!! LOL. Go for it, get em listed so the Brothers can jump at the chance to add another briar to the rack.

OK - fine.

So rather than re-post all those pics over in the Trading Post I'll just take PM's from here, since you asked. Unfortunately, no has asked the vital question! Iit being...how much? These are not no-name basket pipes, rather they represent the creme de la creme, at least of my humble stable. If you nose around to see what the Jepersen's are going for these days you might stagger a big. And for him, this is a very rare shape. It has been smoked maybe a dozen times, at most, but has a slight dark ring around the inner rim of the bowl. I can remove it if desired, re-stain and re-polish. The Maestro de Paja is also pretty sweet, even for their high quality, what with the size and the grain and all. It being an estate when I bought it I have no idea how much it has been smoked, but it's in very sound condition...and beautifull.

The reasons for my moving them out? Not my style of smoking. I use pipes that are smaller and lighter since 99% of my smoking is done while I'm working in my shop. So they sit. I look at them. Pointless. And since I owe money...out they go.

Therefore:

The Maestro de Paja is being offered for $175 and the Jepersen for $200...shipped Priority DC within the continental US only.

PM me if you're still interested.
