PostSubject: Wet smoking   Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:11 pm

Ok here is a silly topic. Sometimes when having beverages with pipes there is extra moisture or saliva in the mouth.

I find if I am having this issue, I smoke with the stem a little further in my mouth to keep my lips or teeth from touching the end/lip of the pipe (no clenching). Also swallowing the "excess moisture" gives me the nicotine instead of spitting it out. And I do not exhale back through the pipe. When the pipe is smoked in this manner, any moisture in the stem has to be from the combustion process.

Are there any other techniques that you use?

Yep, have it happen all the time. I, for a while, was drinking tea daily with my pipe, as it's more comfortable to smoke in the morning sun this time of year for me. I was having excess moisture both from the condensation of the smoke in the stem (which is where a majority of smoking moisture collects). These days I keep my beverage to a sipping shot of alcohol or a small glass of cold water.

A little exhaling back through the stem of the pipe can sometimes help the tobacco stay lit, but I wouldn't worry about specifically not doing it, there's more moisture and condensation likely coming form the tobacco burning itself.

My technique? Very, very complex, highly secretive: pipe cleaner. Cool

Sometimes when I'm developing excess moisture in the stem, I will tap the button on my pants leg, unless it's one of those occasions when I'm smoking naked.

In that case, I will just tap the button on a rag or napkin. Smile

Yes. I will sometimes stand the pipe on my pants leg to let some moisture run out. There is not any naked smoking going on here. I think the neighbors would rather not see me on the backporch like that.

I am a wet smoker, I just salivate a lot when I smoke. Over the past decade I have been using nording keystones or Erik keystones. Little stones that help absorb moisture and keep the pipe generally cooler. Sometimes when I get a little gurgle I pass a pipe cleaner down real quick to absorb some quickly. Works rather well.

So. Many. Dirty. Jokes.

In all seriousness, run a cleaner right down that hole to get all the moisture absorbed, then slide the cleaner out and stick that pipe back in your mouth. Works every time.
