PostSubject: New Member from Alabama   Sat Mar 24, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi all...just joined after lurking a couple of days. I am 60 years old and have been smoking pipes on and off for 40 years or so, but only "seriously" the past few months. I have smoked cigarettes most of my adult life, with the exception of 13 years when I stopped entirely in my 40's. But, foolishly, I started again. The past 6 years I have been smoking Nat Shermans, with the occasional pipe thrown in when the mood struck me. More recently, I am attempting to stop the cigarette addiction and switch over to pipes exclusively. To get to that goal, I have been purchasing some new pipes lately: An estate Dunhill Cumberland, A 2010 Christmas edition Radice, a Matthias Seichter Thuringen ( a hand carver in Germany who makes about 60 pipes a year), a MacQueen "wizard", and an estate Ascorti. I already owned two Ardors, an old Stanwell, a Nording, two LaRocca Featherlites, and a Thomas Spanu. All are bent stems in one shape or another. I do not care for straight stemmed pipes. I have found Larsen tobaccos to be enjoyable, along with some local bulk tobaccos. I am currently experimenting with some English type blends as well.

I am retired, ride a Harley Davidson Road Glide, am married, and own one car. I enjoy fishing whenever possible, with Fly Fishing being the most enjoyable to me. I was once an avid backpacker, but have not been on a backpacking trip in over 5 years now. I also ski a bit. Since retireing and being on a fixed income, I don't get to ski as much as I'd like to any longer.

I'm not so much into collecting pipes for it's own sake, but like smoking a good pipe from various makers. I'd like to acquire another 2-3 pipes in the coming months, just to round out my collection and be able to rest pipes as needed.

I'm interesting in learning more about pipes, tobacco, and the pleasures of smoking a good bowl.

Glad to have found this forum, and feel certain I will learn a lot here. Smile

Welcome to the BoB forums! If you haven't checked it out, there is a nice pipe and cigar shop in Homewood called "The Briary." Smile

Yea, I go there from time to time. Great guys and a good selection of pipes/tobacco.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Welcome aboard! I'm almost off cigarettes myself now that I've returned to the pipe.

I am a new member of the BB forum. Just signed up last week.

Already I have had some great words of wisdom directed my way and have found the gentlemen here most friendly and helpful.

My goal is to give the cigs away and become a devoted Pipe smoker and I know it's not going to be that easy but it's the goal and will be done in time.

Welcome.
