I would agree. Do whichever you like. If you are time limited - concept art is fine, and we'll try to explain to the voters that we're voting on a preliminary piece as opposed to the final design. Once we have the favorite defined by vote we will hope to imposed on someone to finish it - as directed - but also with whatever individual inspiration that can be brought to bear.

Here you go, found a few minutes this evening to through together a couple of ideas. These are rough, but give a few ideas which will hopefully be helpful.

The two images I used, one is that which BH uploaded, the other is the George Petty image printed in an issue of Esquire in 1941 before being copied onto the nose of the Memphis Bell.

It's fun to see the 'feel' that different fonts gives them. Interesting that when taken out of context the first image looks SO 40's and the second one, what, like 60's...late-ish. Personally I like the 'wartime' - the WWII pinup aspect of the first. The second gal's illustration needs the 'unexpected surprise' caption in order to make sense...and you don't see that til it's not there...interesting.

Really nice work! I think once we come to a decision on a final image and the titles or text we want to go with it it'll help with choosing what font and layout to use.

Again...very cool.

I personally lean towards more of a 40‘s wartime image and look as well.

This was very much a quick exercise in idea generation. Like you said, when the various textual components (final wording and such) is set, as well as the image choice, then the real work begins.

Simple and classy, 1940s all the way.

Bomb silhouettes are kind of... meh. Stick with good lettering, a simple phrase and a well-painted lady.

This lettering arrangement is cool:

_B
BOMBERS
_B

(...minus the underscores...the forum hates unnecessary spaces...)

Cool

I'd like to see something done with one of these images.

The life image is fun.

I too saw the Vargas image modified with the bomb. Unfortunately it is that modification that rules out that image specifically, however, nothing says we cannot do the same thing if that is the direction the group would like to go.

Cuervo, I understand. The only reason I personally am contributing time to this is the personal nature of the site and my participation as one of the bombers. My personal and professional policy is NO! SPEC WORK, zero! period! That said, there is a place for personal projects and this one qualifies. (For me at least, not so much your wife it sounds like.)*

There are two primary things to consider when going forward with this artistic endeavor: 1. will the image be original or public domain? and 2. what is the proposed use of the final image?

My feeling was that such an image could be used on a pint glass or coaster or printed on a lighter or similar. This means that the graphic needs to be of sufficient resolution, the resolution which will limit the size of the printed image.

There are other things that could (and may need to) be considered, but those are the primary considerations.

*Personal projects aside, I sure would like more paylance and less freelance....

Cool

I know this gal with a lot of ink who was helping out an aspiring tattooist by giving him some skin to practice on. It's fairly well known that portraits reproduced by inexperienced artists tend to look a bit like the subject has Down's Syndrome, so she had him do a picture of Corky from "Life Goes On". A few years later, she had it covered up with a zombie pin-up girl. Hearing her tell this story gave her one of the best out-of-context quotes of all time: "Dead is way better than retarded." Shocked

You're really deft at altering photos George! I am most impressed! The BoB Bomber jacket and Blackhorse in the jeep are awesome.

How do you do it? Photoshop?

Thanks, E. You flatter me too much. I'm just goofing off here. None of these took longer that five minutes, but I'm trying to come up with something better this little contest. I'm way too cheap to buy Photoshop, but I know my way around Gimp and Paint.net. In the meantime, here's the staff car 2.0. Razz

I'm pretty sure we stated, "Bombing"...not 'Running Down with an Old Car' would be the modus operanti.

Plus...whoever would let Uncle P behind the wheel?!? It's just...CRAZY! LOL

(I think we should have Boxer Buddy in the middle...as he was the 'faux target'.)

I expected the lot of us to stay on task with this about as much as a normal thread. Points for trying, though...yeah, we're the Priscilla Ford Cab Company more than the BoB Bombers, now... Laughing

I was reading the news today and ran across this link. Just a bunch of recently appreciated Kodachrome images from the wartime 40s. Kodachrome was an expensive oddity at that time for the younger members who might not know what it was. Enjoy the photos, they are excellent.
