Picked it up for under seven bucks at a local antique store. Was pretty beat up but after and hour of buffing and light sanding, she turned into quite the gem. Could some one give me some back ground on it, the logo is the words "victor hugo" in and oval and under that it says made in france. On the other side it says faultless briar. The logo on the stem is what looks to be a tire with wings, any ideas?

It's a looker, that's for sure, I wouldn't have left it at the store, either. Cool

Dunno. Couldn't find anything on pipedia. I assume it's French, and St. Claude had scores of manufacturers. Very nice pipe, though. There was a time when this was the only type of pipe I would buy, considering all others frivolous abominations. The well done billiard shape, the tapered bit, the great graining, etc. Strangely, they all tended to come from France--even some of the "English" ones, as I discovered much later.

Guess they really meant it when they said Faultless Briar. Nice find.

I REALLY like the contrast on that one, great find. I've gotta go antiquing again, last time i found a couple of lighters, I think I'm ready to take on a pipe refurbishment now though!

That is a beauty and a classic shape. Don't know much about that maker, but the winged logo is cool. Reminds of an old school, motorcycle tattoo/patch, the winged wheel.

now that's a find.. you found a great looking pipe for 7 bucks.. all I can find over here at the flee markets is old pipes from the DDR that have been put through a meat grinder.

enjoy it.. no matter where it came from.. if you can find out.. even better
