Seriously, I think Grouse must be an olde English phrase for Stank. Stankmoor, that's about right....

The Limburger of Lakeland perhaps?

I'll go as planned and start with the Brown Flake and Ennerdale.

Yea it is pretty funk, but I'd recommend it to anyone who would enjoy smoking a piece of history since it's widely considered the oldest tobacco still in production.

Quick question for you guys on moisture level with some of these flakes. I recently ordered a three different 2oz samples of Bulk flakes from one of the bigger e-tailers. All of them seemed to be right around the same moisture level with exception of the G&H Brown Flake Scented which arrived drier than I prefer. For instance the Brown Scented flakes do not fold with pliability but instead crumble and break up a bit. In your experience is this particular tobacco out of the box a bit drier than say Kendal Cream, Rum & Bob's Chocolate, or did this vendor send me the floor scraps? Also at least 1/4 of the sample is crumbly bits and pieces and not actual intact flake tobacco.

Puff Daddy - how can you say that?

Grousemoor is a beautiful, subtly flavoured, traditional English tobacco that is perfect for a sunny Spring day - something that is increasingly rare in England. The flavouring also diminishes somewhat once the tin has been opened for a while so to get the maximum effect you need to smoke it fresh.

If you want over the top then simply check out Ennerdale - which I also love.

And don't forget that all those flavours and scents are coming from natural essences rather than nasty gloopy chemicals. Smile

Puff Daddy suggested I try Grousemoor (jokingly) some time back. All I did was stand next to a guy at Tinder Box smoking the crap during a Pipe Party, and I didn't know what was more disturbing: me wanting to cut my nose off after smelling it, or the guy blissfully protohaling it out his nose with a look on his face like he was being caressed by an angel.

The devil has many tricks, and Lakeland essence is one of them. Laughing

A little Lakeland is a good thing (for me, at least). I tried a pipe of Conniston Cut Plug; a bit too much!

By coincidence someone - not me - has just posted a review of Grousemoor on Tobacco Reviews.

The review starts by saying "The lightest Lakeland tobacco." and then complains about the lack of flavour.

So a "thin slice of lemon" but without the brick! lol!

Yes - we are a brave and hardy race us Brits. We have to be just to cope with the British "Summer" with parts of Cumbria now being flooded BBC News website

I just pray that Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth do not end up flooded. Luckily for Lakeland afficionados - although not for those who live there - the flooding appears to be well North of Kendal.

My long time Brit mate Ian lives in the Halifax area and reported significant flooding in areas near him. In fact he made national BBC news after being interviewed after fording a waist high flood in an effort to get to the pub near Hebden Bridge. Now that's dedication! LOL!

Here's his e-mail-

Made the Manchester Cider Festival - but came close to not making it back (and not because of the alcohol)!
Fest was a bit disappointing as many of the advertised drinks were not on sale, lots were far too sweet for my taste and there was no vegetarian food.
Took 7pm train home only to get to Rochdale and find it was turned back to Manchester as the cross Pennine tunnels were flooded. So had to change at Huddersfield and Halifax on way back to Mytholmroyd, pig of a detour in itself.
Then at Mytholmroyd I found the road flooded so could not get to pub without getting feet wet, so headed over the River Calder (almost up to the bridge) to the main road - which was flooded too. No traffic passing but didn't look too bad. Took boots off and put socks in jacket pocket, thinking it may get up to knee height and plodded on in the best of British traditions of not letting a bit of water disrupt plans...then gradually became aware that I was in it up to waist height and going on was as good a plan as retreating. A resident on the upper floor asked me to post the keys that were in his front door through the letter box and I found the emergency crews urging me on with advice as to where to go and wanting to help haul my drowned rat of a sad individual out at the far end! Apparantly no one else had walked through it recently - and with hindsight I don't think I would have done it if I'd known how deep and fast the water was going to be. Whilst sat on a wall trying to compose myself and put boots back on I found myself being interviewed by a BBC TV film crew - so I may have made regional if not national news, but hopefully I will be edited out for something more attractive and newsworthy...

RR

Splendid - the true Brit spririt.

I love the "bit of water" expression - I hope he eventually had a few decent pints!!!

I raise my bowl of St Bruno to him.
