Not only do I appreciate pipe smoking... but also a decent cigar as well! (Or any tobacco product really...) I know for a fact, that every Maduro cigar I've tried, I've enjoyed thoroughly. I would like some suggestions on any cigar really, but mainly Maduros. I'll have to wait to get my Humidor from my other house to give a list of what I've tried. Also, I've heard about dropping your cigar stubs, or cuts into your pipe and smoke them. Is that true? A "waste not want not" act? Well I'd love suggestions!

I recommend that you try a couple of mainstay brands in maduro: Macanudo, RyJ, H. Upmann, Puch, A. Fuente.

One I really enjoyed when I first started smoking cigars was Onyx Reserve. I've kinda grown out of it now, but have really enjoyed them in the past.

Oh, and smoking cigar stubs out of your pipe-bad idea.

"No" to smoking stubs out of your pipe. This is no different than gathering up all your pipe dottle and filling a bowl with it. Yuck.

cigarobsession.com is a good source for reviews. Brian Glenn does a load of reviews and knows a decent stick when he smokes one. He'll answer your questions if you email him. There are a bunch of his reviews on Youtube. Best to find what you like strength, flavor, body and wrapper wise and move forward from there. Unlike pipe tobacco I think cigars are fairly straight forward. Every now and then one will throw me for a loop, but not like a bowl of Penzance, Beck's Ol' Limey Bastard, or a good Lakeland will.

I used to know an old timer that smoked cigars in his pipe. Not the stubs...unsmoked cigars only.
He'd shove the cigar into the bowl and slice it off with his knife and fire it up.
There was an old German gent that smoked cigars that he had shipped to him from Germany.
He'd smoke them down to about an inch long stub and shove it into a pipe after drying it out. Stank to hell and back.

I'd recommend Macanudo and Arturo Fuentes - both very good and affordable.

I think the Mini Macanudos are currently my favorite small cigar.


Oh and cigar stubs - you've gotta be pretty hard-core to do that. Seen it done in the past, but not for me.

Fuentes are hit or miss. The better ones are expensive and difficult to track down, but when you get a good one, boy does she sing. See also, Tatuaje. I wouldn't necessarily start here though.

I would suggest the My Farther Line. Really anything made by Don Peppin Garcia or Jaime Garcia is going to be very good. Just about anything Padron makes is also going to be very good. The 2000, 3000, etc are good and inexpensive. If your looking for something a little more trendy, and a little more expensive, Illusione makes some really good cigars. The HL is a lancero that I have recently fallen in love with.

I have the two of the onyx in my humidor right now, Once I get it over to my new house, I'll type up a list. So you all can see it and give me reviews hopefully. I know I have a couple Punch's a couple Acid's... but I'm not sure on the list right now.

Well the past few days, I have had two Perdomo Estate Seleccion Vintage (Which may be close to my favorite cigar), and than I tried a Perdomo^2 Limited Edition from 2008. The second cigar really wasn't really bad, but it wasn't exactly for me. But all the same, The Estate Seleccion Vintage was amazing! It was the perfect cigar in my opinion. Good room note, amazing flavor, great all around.

Liga Privada 9, T52, Undercrown, My Uzi weighs a Ton are all fantastic smokes from Drew Estates

Anything Camacho made.

Sencillo Black and Sencillo Platinum are super with a few months age on them.

I smoke more cigars than pipes 10 to 1. I like em both, but prefer the Cigar when I have the time to actually enjoy it.

The Perdomo Champagne is my go to cigar. Though any Perdomo is a good bet for my taste. Some you will like, as you noted and some you will not, as you noted. There are others that I recommend such as a Romeo and Julieta 1872 or a CAO or Maduro Java.

A cigar that surprised me was the Havana Honey - like a warm smokey honey stick. A good after dinner cigar, but not in any way a regular smoke.

I converted from smoking a couple cigars a day over to pipe smoking. My grandpa is one of those old timers that saved the ends of his cigars and would smoke them out of his pipe. (He can rarely be seen without a cigar in his mouth) I took his suggestion of saving the ends and adopted it to finely slicing enough of a cigar to fill my pipe bowl. All I can say is.....YUCK!!! Do not try it, it isn't worth it. Even with some of my favorite cigars flavored and unflavored it was miserable.

On the cigar front, if you ever get the chance to try a Stradivarius they are phenomenal cigars. I think they were an 89 rating but are my personal favorites even well beyond cigars rated in the high 90's.
