Yes...yes they are... Laughing We're just repeating ourselves today, I guess.

Fine. Flying platypus. Cool

My family used to have an apiary, my suggestion is to gently puff smoke in their direction and try to keep sudden or aggressive movements to a minimum. Addionally, stay away from dark colored clothing.

Colony collapse disorder

They do know why, changes in climate and availability of habitat and because they are declining, fruit and flower growers are encountering problems in production because of the decline of the "polinating" activity they perform. In some ways, they are our "canary in the mine" for us humans . They are part of the "circle" of life Razz

"When in doubt, blame it on climate change."

Bees, like most things, will adapt or die. My money's on adapt. I mean, they've gotten this far.

I was surprised to discover just ho dependent we are on them. The list of fruits and vegetables which they pollinate is mind boggling. Should they disappear we'd be in a world of hurt.

Be kind to bees! cheers

Dude, we had a swarm of those once when I still lived in Tucson!! They were "moving hives" and decided our gas meter was the right spot. We called the FD and they came out fast. All they did was spray a bunch of foam in the cubicle and it was over quickly. When it was all clear I looked inside and the had already made a respectable honeycomb. From the time they started swarming til the arrival of the FD was about 2 hrs! Busy as bees. Shocked

The FD guys explained that Africanized bees were no different than their New World counterparts, just more territorial. I kind of felt bad they had to kill them all, but I guess that was the way they deal with such problems.

They are nasty critters. Absolutely nasty. I have family in Tucson and I hear tales of dogs getting killed within minutes of stirring up a swarm or hive. Neutral

Apparently their honey is awesome--if you survive to get to it. Laughing

It gets far too cold for them to really be a threat here in northern Nevada, but the problem is them interbreeding with the native bees and adapting. No thank you.

Cool
