Those are both great looking pipes, Dutch. I especially like the pick-axe just for its uniqueness.
Thanks for posting them!

Thanks George. Smokeable briar is a valuable resource, and covering flawed briar in such a beautiful way, was an ingenious idea. I think more pipe carvers should consider covering most of their flawed briar, instead of just chunking them into the trash bin.

Some very fine examples of that genre of pipes guys!! I do recall when they were always on the pipe boards at most B&Ms back in the '70s/'80s but never got one Sad Looks like I'm gonna have to keep my eyes open for one now Razz

Possible Longchamp bloodletting aside, GK, you know you can probably buff over that insignia on the original pipe if you wanted to get rid of all the vulcanite oxidation. If the white disappears, do what I do with old rifles--use whiteout. Cool

On the Sav? Yeah, I keep meaning to detail that better, but in person it's hardly noticeable. The logo's not printed deep enough leave an impression. I suppose one of these days I'll just buff it off and be done with it.

On a side note: you know I said that diamond-shanked cob I sent you was smoked just once while fishing Asylum Lake? Well, that's Asylum Lake in he Longchamp photos. If the cob seems homesick, you can show it those pictures. Razz

Love the patina on the Zippo.

Thanks Harlock! You set the bar for pipe portraiture. I'm just trying to catch up.
That Zippo's an odd one. At one time it was my "toss it in the pocket with my keys and coin and not worry about it" lighter. Now that I've got it beat in just perfectly, I don't like to carry it because I don't want it to change any more.

I'm laughing, because I know exactly what you mean... cheers
And thanks!

This is Nevada. A certain crazyperson might just fill up a $5 kiddie pool, and the pipe would have to deal with its new "Asylum Lake." Laughing

I need to start savin' ash, there's a black hole below the shank in that sucker that I ought to fill in before I try smokin' it much.

Here's my ONLY leather clad.... with the fur still on it. It too is a Longchamp and I believe they call this "Pony" for obvious reasons.

If it's for the silliest looking pipe I won that a long time ago with a few others I have that are much sillier.

Oh, and Zach, I've never smoked it and don't intend to, it's just in my collection. Heck, out of near 200 pipes I only smoke maybe 4. Two cobs a Brier and a Meer, not necessarily in that order..

Actually NOT leather at all, but still pretty cool. It's totally briar; even the zipper pull. Also, it's not mine. I just saw it on a website and thought I'd share.

George, You won! That's got to be the silliest pipe I've ever seen. That zipper will certainly rub on the briar and soon there will be some nice scratches and wear marks on it and I'm afraid that it might just want to hold moisture in the gap between the leather and the briar if you smoked it frequently. But, I gotta admit I wouldn't mind owning it.

Kyle, Sorry but, I'm just going to ignore you this time.
I think the reason is obvious.

Although this is the only picture I've seen, I'm pretty sure the zipper and the leather are all carved from the briar and colored to look like this.

Oh! I see it now! Please excuse the eye sight. I can see the wood-grain in the zipper pull on close inspection.
Now that's what I call a carver.
