PostSubject: My Crazy Job   Wed Jul 04, 2012 2:53 pm

I have been absent lately not by choice, but by necessity. We're in our ten hour work days, which generally means 11 hours at work. My family now has a YMCA membership so we're at the pool or exercising in some way most days of the week. This week being an anomaly because we have company from out of town. As it happens, with the 90+ degrees in our neck of the woods, as in so much of the country, I've barely smoked a pipe in the last several weeks/months. However, the occasional bowl is still a treat.

That said, here is my story. Early last week a crazy guy calls work. He is someone who was acting crazy and I asked him to leave. He threatened another employee and was barred, permanently. Almost a year later, he calls my boss, wants my number because he wants to press charges against me for murder. Yup, you read that correctly. He says I threatened "to kill him." Along with some other accusations, he proceeds to go further down the deep end. Needless to say, I never said anything of the sort of the man, he's just plain old out of his mind, oh and lying.

So, long story short, my boss gives him the brush off, and then he proceeds to say, "that's okay, I'll deal with him the way I know how to deal with him."

Now, reading between those convoluted lines, tells me that he's after me. As in most places of business, we can't carry weapons, not even a pocket knife. So, here I am, having to be super vigilant over the next few days, hoping that this guy doesn't show up behind me somewhere. I figure by now that he's just playing head games, but man, why are the crazies allowed to run around free. Smile

Anywhoo, that's an example of one of my weeks this summer. Smile

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the baccy!

Glad you checked in, Martin.

Wow, you have a "new friend" that's fixated on you--that's not fun. I seem to be a freak magnet, and often have to out-crazy the crazies, and most of the time it works, but I wouldn't dare suggest anyone else do such a thing. Neutral I had one guy that would wait for me outside my job when I worked for a supermarket because I kicked him out for making purposeful messes. He never did anything, just stood there, then followed me to my car. I then realized when he would get to his "stalk spot" and simply occupied it in the same manner when he'd get there. Crazies, often being creatures of extreme habit,, don't like their "choices" mucked with or their routines broken...so he couldn't adapt to simply moving to another spot to be crazy and stalk me, and finally just stopped coming to the store. *shrug*

I'll probably end up dead one day from being wrong. Oh well.

Laughing

Sorry to hear you're not having as many relaxing bowls as you'd like, Martin--it's friggin' hot this summer! Seriously glad you're well, if not a little shaken from the local human wildlife. I'll try not to mess with you, you being a possible murderer and all... Laughing Rolling Eyes Cool

Also, I just saw you were in the midst of a move... I attempted an upgrade recently, too, but the rental markets here are awful. So I just stayed put for now. *shrug* No sense in moving into a bigger dump for more money.

File a police report, or even go get a restraining order. When the nut job is facing a talk with the authorities he'll probably disappear for good. At least with a simple police report for making threats against you, if he ever does show up again, he'll likely go straight to jail instead of being told to leave.

Or borrow George's spear gun and threaten to shoot him in the neck. This technique worked very well for George.

Seriously, follow PD's advice. That way you're legally covered if he does show up.

Funny thing, my bosses wouldn't allow me to call the police in my situation above, they say it would have made a "...bad image for the store." Apparently police are worse than crazy, destructive people... Neutral Otherwise I would have approached the situation differently. I kind of wish something did happen, I had witnesses that overheard the store manager instructing me to leave the police out of it. That company sucked. They're gone, now, thankfully.

Call the cops. Fill out the statement and have it on file. CYAWP (Cover it with paper).

Reason : "If it's not on paper, it doesn't exist/never happened" (sage advice given me when I started working for the state by the program director). Without that, if it gets stupid, it's your word against his. With it, his being the jerk is presumptive.

Don't put yourself behind the 8-ball. Log every time. Date. Place. Time. Direct quotes. Every detail. And make sure your complaint's on file at the cop shop.

Martin, keep your eyes AND ears open. It's amazing how many times it was my ears that warned me that something wasn't right while I was in Nam.

A restraining order isn't worth the paper it's printed on. If it makes you feel better get one as a form of documentation but don't put any faith in it keeping
him from getting a piece of you if he really wants it.

A woman here in town had a restraining order on her ex boyfriend. He killed her, chopped her into six pieces, put those pieces into a trash can and tried to burn them.
I could recount several instances of similar things happening to people here in town who applied for and got restraining orders.

Whether he's caught or not doesn't matter to the victim if they're dead. There are five unsolved homicides here.

How is your boss going to know that you carry a knife unless you tell him or flash the knife around? The same thing can be said for a small gun.

A small pocket screwdriver is a serious piece of self defense hardware if you know what to do with it. Carry a Phillips head. Sure it's only good for close in attacks but then, most physical attacks are close in, aren't they?

Who knows what a crazy man is going to do? He doesn't know what he's going to do so how can anyone else know what he'll do?

If you actually think the man is serious maybe it's time to ask yourself which is more important...your life or your job.

Just because you take necessary steps to defend yourself doesn't mean that you're afraid. It just means you're smart enough to do it and that you didn't laugh it off.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the advice . I actually been carrying a large super sharp spyderco with me. So far so good. Work is filing law suit against the guy and pressing charges . Police is also willing to escort me to car. On the up side, i am enjoying my first bowl in weeks right now.

Hey Martin, welcome back and sorry to hear about your trouble with this guy. I would agree with Yak's advice and at least get some official record of his harassment. Who knows, if he comes back you can mention that it's on record with the authorities. That might be enough for him to get the message.

Pretty obviously, nothing's going to save you from him short of a glock and good bullet placement.

What I wrote was predicated on the assumption that he's halfway rational.

Not a safe assumption, but FWIW.

Stay safe!

I'd say def make a report just in case you have to defend your self you have a police background of the indecent. I work at a nasa technical support help desk and some public people get our number off of one website or another, then call me asking about pointing all the satellites to the weird star in the north that is always following them. There is always crazies out there and at our place we have to document every call normal or not.

Martin, this is a less than pleasant story to be sure. I am happy to see your employer is taking this seriously. I also believe that reporting this incident to the police is absolutely necessary. Be careful, Sir!

My own self defense? 260 pounds of scowling, tattooed man. Crazies avoid me.

Be safe, Martin. And enjoy that bowl of fine tobacco...

Who is Red Jacket and where do I find this truck? I am in the market for a vehicle when I get home and this Zombie hunting truck could be just what I need!

Okay, want desperately, but it is the same thing.

Red Jacket is a company in Louisiana that builds and customizes weaponry. There has been a series on television called
Sons of Guns that has followed them.

Do you think I can convert my Ram 1500 into this? it might mess up my paint job, but then again, with that kind of armaments, no one will be looking at the paint. LOL

Martin, If you already have the Ram truck and you live in the south, you need to mount a gun rack in the back window. Add few crazy bumper stickers with politically incorrect statements and you are in business.

It would also help if you called Sean's tattoo man. P )

Yeah, I think I need some sort of mean-a$$ tat. Don't have one yet, but as soon as I reach a certain life-goal, I WILL be getting one. Smile
