I recently had a chance to give a try ( one bowl's worth) of some of Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Twist Flake and found it a very interesting smoke. I was wondering if any bro's here have smoked it much and what were their impressions? I realize, and do smoke other Va's so don't need suggestions of what is better but would like anyones impressions of IT. Razz I've been on TR and read all the reviews of it, just wanted anyone here's impressions Razz

LTF is pretty much a classic. I haven't smoked it for a long while, but it was a staple for a long time when I was first breaking into flakes in general. That and Flake deLuxe by Bjarne...which is also quite good it think, were some of the first flakes I ventured into. That being the case I always think of them as 'starter' flakes...being forgiving in nature and not difficult to smoke. I'm likely the only guy out here that would class them in that way. Another thing I really like about the LTF is the it's not expensive...and readily available....being a kind of 'bulk' item, I guess. It seems to me that within each company or line of tobaccos there are one or two standouts, that they do really well. LTF is one of those...and the other is Bullseye, from the same maker. Well, that's my spin.

It's a regular for me and has been for a few years. Whether you fold or rub out it gives a sweet hay flavor, and although it's not a very complex smoke, it gets richer towards the bottom of the bowl. Twist is a light smoke, and for me is best in a meer where I can pick up the subtle flavors.

I'm quite fond of it personally. I recently cracked a jar of LTF that I had set aside for about two years and was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I have difficulty with now is selecting a pipe to smoke it in. The coconut (Coppertone) topping really gets into the pipe so I like to keep it segregated from my straight Va pipes. It's a great, user friendly flake for sure. I think all the Stokkebye Luxury tobaccos are very good for the price.

I second everything that has been said except I don't taste coconut. I consider it an aromatic virginia. Nice flavor and room note.

I too like LTF and find it makes an excellent Sat morning pipeload with coffee. Perfect moisture level and I usually rub mine out a bit. Can't say I've tasted any Coconut though.

That and the Bullseye are two of my staples when I want something light and uncomplicated.

Cheers,

RR

I enjoy it and try to keep a few ounces on hand. I should probably buy a 24oz box and jar it up... It would last me forever! I rarely get a sweet-tobacco-tooth so I don't smoke much Luxury Twist flake but it's perfect when that itch strikes

I never get any coconut either. To me the smell in the jar and the sidestreem is of caramel... It just tastes like a sweet VA flake lol

I always thought the topping tasted like the almondine flavoring put into bear claw pastry filling. The tobacco itself is on the mild side, not bad. It's been a few years.

I wouldn't necessarily give much credence to a review from myself and it sounds as if you've decided to have a go at the LTF but figured what the heck and throw another voice into the mix. LTF and LNF seem to me to be in the same family as LBF, which is at the higher end of my list of favorites. My palate isn't sophisticated enough to decipher minute details so I can't give specifics of why but I have rated the LTF slightly lower than the LBF and slightly better than the LNF. I've never had a perception of coconut in any of them but with the power of suggestion sometimes I do then detect a hint of the latent experience.

I love Luxury Navy Flake, but the Cavendish in the Twist Flake has always scared me off. LNF is sweet enough as it is.

Don't let it put you off Dave. I find it to be a counterpoint to the blend. It doesn't seem to be enough (for me) to overwhelm the blend.

JMHO.

Do twist and bullseye have relatively the same amount of cavendish? I know the cuts are different but I ordered a couple ounces of the bullseye and am trying to get a feel for what LNF and LTF might be like off of that since they seem to be out everywhere.

I feel like Bullseye has a bit more cav, but despite not being much into cavendish in general, I think I like Bullseye a little more. Really do like'em both, though; haven't tried the Navy, so can't add anything there. One thing I'll say about the LTF is that as far as flakes go, it tends to require a gentler touch than most in order to pack it, assuming you're aiming to fold and stuff it rather than rubbing it out. Could just be my rough hands, but every time I've tried folding and stuffing I've ended up just rubbing it out, as the flakes come apart a mite too easily for a proper accordion packing. The flakes themselves are some of the prettiest I've seen, just on an aesthetic level.
