I am not an expert. The following pages may help you make your own determination regarding this one's authenticity.

Loring on Fakes

How much does the seller want?

Looks kinda like a "5" after England to me. That would make it 1965. Looks like a legitimate Dunnie to me.

I'd definitely get a few more opinions on the date, but I think its authentic.

Are there Dunhill pipes that are stamped as "shell" instead of "shell briar" in the post patent era?

I'm not trying to muddy the water on the issue of authenticity. I'm only curious.

I'm no Dunnie expert either, but it looks like it's got a metal stinger in there, which should help date it. Uh... pre '60s?

I'd contact Marty Pulvers: Mpulvers@aol.com

He'll be able to give you some pretty detailed info if you show him those two pictures. He'll probably also have some choice words about Dunhill, but at least you'll have your info. Laughing

It has the aluminum tube in it the older Dunhills had. The tube is long. It reaches from the draft hole almost half way way to the button of the stem. I've got one from the 1914-1918 era with the tube. Sure looks like the real thing to me.

The post patent date Dunhill pipes that I have are stamped DUNHILL SHELL without any quotation marks.
The book published by John Loring will give you all the info you need. I'm sure google will give you a link.

Also, many Dunhill pipes still came with an aluminum inner tube even into the 1980's.

Hope this helps.

If that is indeed a "5", and I can't say that it is based upon the photo, then it is a 1965 Dunhill. From what I can tell, I do not see a patent stamp. According to Loring's fine book this pipe dates to 1965.

In fact looking at it again, it could be a "2" after and in line with the D in England which would date this pipe to 1962, but I thought the 2 should be raised and not in line with the D in England. I'll keep looking at references and see what I come up with.
