I was just wondering what my brothers thought of smoking different tobaccos out of the same pipe. Any experiences?

Packing one tobacco on top of another [parfait] can be interesting. The first influences the second and it's an interesting experiment.

While this is not something I practice often, it can produce some incredible (and occasionally some less-than-desirable) results. More experimentation is required before I would make this a standard practice though...

I have a pipe designated for various tobacco blends. For instance, I have no problem smoking Lancer's Slices, Beck's Ol' Limey Bastard, Margate, and Odyssey in the same pipe. But typically I don't ping-pong back and forth between blends, so if I open a tin of Margate I'll stick with it for a while before changing tobaccos.

If I find a blend that I really like, I'll designate a pipe to it, and any aromatics or soapy Lakelands have their own cob.

One of the best "Ghost Ship" smokes I have ever had was when I accidentally smoked GLP Cumberland in a pipe that I had been smoking McClelland's Tastemaster in, (identical MM diplomats). "Hey, who put their chocolate in my peanut butter?!" Razz

Ah, this question again. Laughing

I used to do this, I don't much anymore. Unless I'm trying to rescue a bowl I don't have the heart to dump out and curse at for being terrible, and I happen to have a good cover-up tobacco (in theory) at hand.

When I was about two, I vividly remember having a bowl of cereal in front of me, a glass of milk to pour into it and a glass of orange juice. Thinking I was already a chef, I chose the juice. I tried it. It was awful, but it could have been good. How was I supposed to know? My mother made me eat it. Probably why I'm warped, yet remember the scenario well.

Sometimes things just don't go together, and sometimes experience is the only teacher.

Cool

On occasion when I have only the dregs left in a tin - less than a half bowl or so I will layer another similar blend on top to fill. But I do really try to stay very close - say London Mixture under Standard Mixture Mellow or, say, Engine 99 under Star of the east. Works for me. Blending them together though, nope.

Don't feel bad I took it the same way you did.

To answer what he meant though....try anything once. If it works for you then awesome. Most people tend to just stick with particular blends and don't much try to improve or vary from what the blender intended. If you get a parfait that works out well do a write up and let us know please.
