PostSubject: Back to work Tomorrow   Back to work Tomorrow EmptyWed Aug 22, 2012 9:30 pm

I was supposed to start on Monday the 27th, but I got a call this morning wanting me to start on Thursday.

Not being allowed to be picky in this economy, I used my Retail experience and accepted a position as a Meat Department Manager for a local grocery chain. Actually they're a very large chain, but the local dozen stores in the chain are family owned here locally. While this isn't exactly what I was hoping for, it will more than pay the bills so I can't pass it up.

With us being down to 1 vehicle (Ford Explorer) I had to limit my possibilities to something fairly close to the area I live in. Commuting is always a possibility, but this is close enough so as to not cause problems.

Sorry I didn't make this announcement sooner, but things have been busy around here.

Thank You to all who offered support when my last job fell through.

Congrats on the new job. If you are at a crossroads, I highly recommend the book "48 days to the work you love" by I believe Dan Miller. I read a lot so I may be confused on the author.

Alright Rob!

Wonderful news, Brother. That didnt take too long at all!

As long as dem bills is paid... Its a fine job. Honestly, I've been thinking about using my supervisor/management experience to get something similar... At least it's somewhat low-stress and like monbla said you can get first dibs on some good cuts!

Smile

Congratulations.

Cool, thanks Brad. I'll locate a copy and give it a read.

Surprising how many replies there are already. Thanks for your support, Brothers. Like I said, it's not ideal, but it's adequate. You're right, Mister E - work is work and it pays more than the unemployment benefits.

Oh yeah, regarding cuts of meat - it will soon be time to throw a Brisket on the Smoker. Twisted Evil

+1.

Also, it might not be what you wanted, but you're managing a meat department. A MEAT DEPARTMENT. You're position is vital to many individuals' and families' consumption of all things animal. In my house, that makes you something of a demigod.

Good to know Rob. Who knows, it may be a stepping stone.

In any case it's what you make of it. Sure beats the unemployment schtick!

Cheers,

RR

Well, survived the first day. It wasn't bad at all, just a change of pace for me. The Store Manager and the guys I work with are great, and they really do come together to make a Team, which definitely helps in the long run.

I forsee no problems at all here, but that doesn't mean I won't keep an eye out for better opportunities down the road.

Only problem there is everyone that does smoke, smokes cigarettes. I'll have to bust out my pipe and make the back room smell good. Twisted Evil

Help us judge the quality of this particular grocery store: do they sell Captain Black? How about Prince Albert? If they sell Walnut, I'm moving to Missouri.
