Well folks, I haven't had time to make a pipe in a long while. This post is waaaay overdue. Something about getting married, honeymooning, starting a new job, and dealing with a lot of funerals really takes away all the pipemaking time. Imagine that.

At any rate, it was good to make another at long last. And sorry guys, this one is sold!

Great work! Looks very similar to my favorite Ben Wade. Very pretty.

Freehand shapes trouble me these days in part because I don't like the "turned stem" adornments that make them look like furniture legs. This one, with the more traditional stem, makes it a non-traditional freehand. Great choice. The golden glow of the briar is also a win. Cool

Very nice! I like the shape, especially the bowl. The thing I like about free hands is when it look jagged at the top of the bowl, like a broken limb. But then you look down and you see this Dino skin looking plateau, it so primitive looking. The stems have alway been an issue though. I think it is hard to fin a balance for the stem. Like Kyle said, they normally look like spindles on a table, but you avoided that. cheers

Thanks for the comments guys. I agree about the stem. That is something that has always turned me off of the Nording freehands. I'm itching to make another already!

I have one older Nording that I can never bring myself to get rid of due to the fact it's a "freehand Rhodesian." It's the most curious pipe I own, and I've never liked the fact it has a "turned table leg" stem (and it's 9mm filter). One day I want to challenge one of the carvers here to make something like it for me, or at the bare minimum, re-do the stem so it isn't filtered, fills the "gap" in the shank and has more of a saddle bit shape to it.

The more I look at this pipe, the more I like it, Ocelot. It has a good "Wa" about it, as my buddy James would say.

Cool

Beautiful pipe. Looks to be just right for a good book or a long walk in the woods. Wonderful work!

Very nice! I like the stem. Hate those knobby looking things used in so many freehand pipes!
