my first tin of tobacco Empty

Hellos to all.
I don't smoke tobacco to often these days but lately it as been calling to me...

The other week,
I picked up some american spirit red pouch to smoke hits off of in a small glass pipe.
I liked this smoke. It gives a strong buzz and burns with animation. Unfortunately, the cigarette rolling friends quickly mooched all my baccy. Suspect

So I decided my next pickup would be something more choice. I knew I wanted some thing high in vitamin N, so I ordered a tin of Brown #4 rope/twist. I wanted to pickup a log of mapacho/rustica as well but I could not find a vendor who stocked it.

....the tin arrived and I struggled to pry it open with my fingers but to no avail. Finally I managed to break the vacuum seal by prying it open with a spoon. Woo
The dense roll of leaves smelled strongly of well, tobacco. No nonsense here - just some stanky tobacco. pirat

A sherlock style of pipe is not something I had on hand. What I did have was a small glass pipe. I packed the pipe 'n' baccy in a bag and grabbed my flute then ambulated up the hill to get some ale from the store.

Having aqcuired the beer, I secured a park bench sittin' spot, sat, popped open the tin of brown number four and cracked an ale.

I picked some loose leaf bits out of the tin and ruffled them through a steel grinder. I say ruffled because the brown number four was to moist to grind very finely.

Lots of puffing and relighting and ale sipping flute noodling, later - color me impressed by the taste! A nice buzz from the puffing of too. An unpleasant tongue bite occurred. The small glass pipe is not optimal for smoking this way.

I imagine those blends would be pretty harsh in a glass bowl. Pick up a nice briar and you'll really enjoy the experience. Or a corn cob if you don't want to spend a lot of cash, you'll be surprised how well they smoke.

Welcome betelscroy!

Yes - definitely pick up a Cob, or at least an old thrift-store find estate pipe.

Okay! So I'm off to the pipe shop to find a decent calabash. I had to wikipedia tobacco pipes as I just don't know the lingo. I like the idea of the calabash - seems like the addition of a smoke chamber after the combustion chamber would allow the smoke to cool greatly and help reduce tongue bite.

A calabash is great for the sitting around kind of smoking but for when your doing something else it's just too big and awkward. I like mine for watching TV or reading and that's it but it's great for that purpose.

So the shop didn't have any calabashs, therefore I got this nice long stemmed briar. I chose a straight stemmed one because it doesn't tip if I set it down and makes me feel like I've got a bad ass kiseru when I'm holding it - I like to pretend i'm Goemon!

I found my preferred burn on the brown rope comes after drying for about 10 minutes under an incandescent heat lamp until it just becomes crumbly.
It cherries well, allowing slow sipping draws of thick pungent smoke. The hemp wick makes the whole issue of relights almost null as I have a nice little flame constantly at hand.

Mouthfuls of flavor, smoke rings and the lightest french inhalation causes my legs to go all jelly.

Simply wonderful.
