Greetings from Malta Empty
PostSubject: Greetings from Malta   Greetings from Malta EmptySat Sep 15, 2012 10:02 am

Hello guys,

I bought my first pipe several days ago and have already played around with several kinds of tobacco (in the same pipe...), not really given the pipe much time to 'rest', and generally made a pig's ear of things. But it's been fun so far!

I'm a cigarette smoker, and since smoking a pipe (four/five bowls a day) have stopped smoking cigarettes. I do not inhale the pipe smoke, except very occasionally (once or twice per bowl).

The pipe I bought is a Savinelli 122 (black elegance) - I've since found out that the design was first issued in 1986 (the year I was born!) for ladies (...I'm a guy...), but was popular with a unisex market so it's been in production ever since.

It wasn't very expensive, though I feel drawn to one of those churchwarden pipes (blame LoTR), and the promise of cool smoke.

I've tried three kinds of pipe tobacco:

Ashton Guilty Pleasure - this was my least favourite. Tasted a little insipid.

Mac Baren Mixture Modern - liked this better.

Ashton Consummate Gentleman - so far this has been my favourite. Could anyone recommend other tobacco like this one?

So yep, I'm just having fun but don't really know what I'm doing half the time. It's nice not to have to smoke cigarettes all the time, and look forward to a calm smoke. Now, I just need to get to grips with the rest of this hobby!

Welcome Pietru. Many brothers here were (a few still are) cigarette smokers, and many have used their pipes to reduce or stop their cigarette habit. Don't worry too much about resting your pipe at this point (just my advice, others will say different) just relax, enjoy your pipe, and you'll learn what works best for you.

thanks all! enjoying it immensely so far, though a little annoyed at the limited tobacco available - none of the more interesting stuff everyone here seems to talk about is available at my local tobacconist (only one I know of).

I do plan to purchase another pipe though... asap Razz
