Bent Apple....for my Mom Empty
PostSubject: Bent Apple....for my Mom   Bent Apple....for my Mom EmptyFri Oct 05, 2012 10:54 am

I finished this last week and just keep forgetting to post pictures. This little piece of scrap briar that I figured was just big enough to do something with. It was a really soft piece of wood so I decided to sandblast it.....with my mini sandblaster Laughing. It only took about 3 hours and it still isn't that deep of a blast. Needless to say, I won't be doing that again until I get properly set up. Anyway, here she is.

It is on the edge of being a nosewarmer.

length: 4.71"
height: 1.60"
width: 1.64"
chamber: .75"
debth: 1.17"

I really like the "light" sandblast on it. You should really try that setting again. That is an awesome pipe for a scrap piece and three hours of work. Well done Scottie. Your pipes are getting more impressive with every carving!! When are you setting up a web site and selling some of these bad boys (er..girls)?

I'm actually working on my website now. In the mean time I have one listed on ebay and have 4 in the works. I was going to have our graphics designer set up my website, but he is short on time at the moment (he owns a holiday lighting company and his season is already started...) So I am working on it at night trying to do it myself. Just something basics for now, until he has time to build a proper site for me.

And sorry for the confusion....the blasting took 3 hours..... Laughing

I dig it. The light blasting, although it took quite some time, looks awesome. Great job Scottie.

Oh yeah! I love those little nosewarmers, as they clench so easily. That one looks like it will make a nice handwarmer in the coming colder weather. Congrats on some great looking work scotties! cheers

Once again a marvelous job on a pipe. This one too shows your skill at maintaining fantastic proportions.

The stem concept is way cool. Kind of an offset saddle. I like it a lot! The "gentle blast" is perfect for this shape, and a good overall pipe for a lady, if I might say so.

Cool

My new markeyting slogan.....Pipes for a lady, by a lady Laughing

Thanks. I really like the half saddle. And am kind of stuck on it at the moment. I have a pipe that is almost finished that has a cumberland half saddle on it.

The blast is just deep enought to give the pipe some texture in the hand and just shallow enough that some of the finer detail in the grain didn't come out. If I run across a cheap compressor any time soon I'm going to get a blasting cabinet and do one right. I used a plastic tote that I leaned over when I did this one.....I was a dusty mess and hunched over and hurting by the time I was done.

A pipe to help me get in touch with my feminine side? Ok. I am cool with that. After all, with a pipe like yours, who will notice the person smoking it?

Nice little pipe there. I like the shallow blast, it looks kind of like leather. I want to do one similar but orange with cross grain and call it "Orange peel sunrise" I just can figure out what color for the stem Rolling Eyes

I'd get some kind of really crazy orange pen blank.....go all out orange. If I would have had a bigger container on the blaster for media this might have gone faster. The big problem was that I had to reload every few minutes.
