PostSubject: Big in Japan: My pipe and I are tourist attractions!   Sun Oct 21, 2012 6:45 pm

I had an amusing afternoon. There's this place where I like to wander while smoking my pipe. It's a 300 acre wilderness preserve called Asylum Lake, and despite being within the city limits and bordered on 3 sides by heavily trafficked roads, Hardly anyone in town seems to know it's there. For some strange reason, the only people I ever see there are Japanese college students. Today as I was walking I crossed paths with a young couple who asked me in broken "Engrish" to take a picture of them under a beautiful amber-leaved maple tree. After I did this, they wouldn't let me go. The girl wanted her boyfriend to take a pic of the two of us together. I stuck my pipe (a MM General cob) in my pocket and smiled.
"No, no, no" she said, pointing at my pipe and motioning to my face. Slightly confused, I returned the pipe to my mouth. After having our picture taken with the pipe, she took the camera and got one of me and the guy together. Seeing they were clearly amused by this, I wiped off the stem with a hanky and and offered it to them. They LOVED this and took several more shots of each other hamming it up with my cob and wearing my driving cap.
Seemed like it really made their day!

Good job spreading the pipe to the Asian community but why can I not help but picture a Bagelhead with a pipe now?

GK, this is why you need to keep an unsmoked cob on you at all times. You never know who's really gonna need one to take back home.

Nicely played, Chuck & gravel... Laughing

Cool

Every time I look at this thread and see your avatar, the song 'It's Impossible' by Perry Como goes through my mind...in a Japanese accent of course. Laughing
