PostSubject: Does anyone stream videos?   Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:18 pm

I signed up for a 1 month free trail to netflix and tried streaming videos to an ipad.
The picture is great and there is no stops and starts.
Does anyone stream videos to a TV?
What device do you use?
Can you record a video stream?
How does netflix compare with Hulu?
Are these HD streams?
And of course the age old problem...what do you do with an old TV?
Thanks,
Bub

I've been streaming for years now. It's about all I watch any more. I've used Netflix for a long time, but not too long ago I dumped them because I ran out of things that interested me to watch.

Now I stream Amazon videos. If you're a prime member, they have a selection for free. I just use my BluRay player. It came ready for Netflix and Amazon.

Yup, most definitely. I use a Roku to stream Amazon, Netflix, HBO Go, and MLB.tv to my TV. HD quality video and near DVD quality audio. I also use my Kindle Fire and laptop to stream all of the above and several others when I'm not sitting directly in front of my TV.

You can buy an hdmi cable with a special iPad adapter plug, and plug the ipad directly into your hi def tv. I think it was around $30 at best buy. One end plugs into the hdmi jack in the back of the tv, the other end into the iPad (the charging port). You turn on the tv, set the input to hdmi (1 or 2 on my tv, we have a blueray player plugged into 2 and the iPad cable plugged into 1), plug the ipad into the cable and stream using the ipad as the netflix streamng source. The picture quality is excellent.

Thanks Puff Daddy,
I bought an Apple Composite AV Cable for about $40 from Radio Shack.
It has the (1) white, red and yellow RCA jacks, (2) a connector for the ipad and (3) a plug to keep the i pad charged.
This connection does not mirror the i pad but we can watch netflick videos on "older" tvs

I streamed Netflix using a Wii for several years. I bought a Sony Blu-ray player a couple of months ago, and it's vastly superior. With the Wii, we frequently had program interruptions, and sometimes it would lose the connection interminably, and we've have to go back to the Wii menu, and then navigate back to the program. Sometimes it resumed where we left off, and sometimes not. It was a royal PITA.

There are no similar problems with the Blu-ray player. I think we've had one minor hiccup in the last couple of months, and I think that was a Netflix problem. Of course, it plays DVDs and Blu-ray discs as well.

Anyhow, I stream video to the TV all the time, and it works fine, now that we have a decent interface.

Roku and Netflix are my primary sources for streaming.
Although I do stream the weekly Pipesmagazine podcast on the computer.
Very Happy

I stream just about everything through a Roku. Strangely, the remote control app for android works better than the remote control it comes with. Go figure.
