Hey Y'all. I decided to get into bamboo, and just finished my first pipe with it. I figured I'd give you a look at it and see what you think.

Bamboo is a horse of a different color for sure. While there are a lot of the same principals to follow, the process can be totally different...at least it is for me. I guess the great advantage to creating a product, is the "Quality Control". Which is why I'm keeping this one for myself. I want to see how it smokes and so on before adding bamboo in to my standard offerings.

Anyway...here she is. See what you think.

Thanks for looking!

Brian.

Brian, you really nailed the spacing and overall balance with the bamboo. I can't imagine how well you will do once you get the hang of it! Wink

I really like both the forward cant and the "squashed" look of the bowl. Has the feel of having been made by someone with much more experience. Like monbla I look forward to the time when you do.

You're gonna be a monster pipe maker!

I agree, if that's your first shot at bamboo, you'll do well in that medium. On a bamboo stemmed pipe, I always look for the detail of indentions in the bamboo matching the shank. Yep, right on the bottom. That detail always makes me grin. Well done! Have you smoked it yet? If so, what are your impressions on smoking a bamboo stemmed pipe? I've never owned one and wonder other than asthethics, is there a difference?

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yeah, I think I'm going to like having bamboo in the mix. I got my first bamboo pipe in a trade from a good friend here on the forum, Jesse Jones, and seeing that it's a Tom Eltang pipe, I've had a nice piece to learn from in the process.

There are a few nuances I'll change on the next go around which will make it look a bit better, but I smoked it last night and it smoked wonderfully. It smoked cool and bone dry even with a freshly opened tin of G&H Top Black Cherry. Every bit of ash just fell out upon tuning the bowl over for cleaning.

I won't say that bamboo is the quintessential pipe material, because I really don't know. But I'll say it works great and looks great.

I was gonna say, your new bamboo pipe looks suspiciously like the Eltang I traded you, just smooth instead of blasted. Now you have the perfect bamboo set! It turned out wonderful, Brian!

Well, I wouldn't do Tom the injustice of calling it a perfect set Very Happy , but I was able to take some hints from his. Always more to learn though....

Damn, Brian. For your first time out with bamboo, I only have one comment:

Nailed it.
