day one of shaping, sorry forgot to take before pics of when it was just a little piece of plateaux, minding it's own business until i drilled holes in it and stuffed some plastic up it.

i'll keep updating, but i think i won't be able to work on it again until this weekend.

Finished it up. I'm calling it Chublin. Chubby Dublin... Get it? Well I still need to get some of the bark off the top, but I had to smoke it, as I was offered some original Balkan Sobranie to smoke in it! Followed it up with a half bowl of Peter Heinrich 314 blend from 2001, what a fine smoke that is. The BS was pretty sweet so I wanted to smoke something else today to test it. So half a bowl in a Pete, half a bowl in the Chublin. Yup, the pipe has a slight sweet taste to it! Might have to make it my VaBur pipe. Pics:

Small gap in the stem/shank that I didn't notice while sanding, a few pits here and there, and one pic makes the stain look really uneven. Also these don't highlight the slight bend in the stem. I'll take a few more in the daylight this week and see if they turn out better. It isn't perfect, but its an. Improvement! I'll also weigh and measure when I'm back home on Wednesday.

Thanks for the time!

A stubby freehand Plateaux, what a great idea, I really look forward to seeing how this turns out.

thanks for the kind words, Kirk. i spent another hour on it yesterday and the shape is coming along nicely. total of maybe four hours work time on the pipe over two days. i'm hoping to have it done by the end of the weekend, but we'll see hwta kind of time i have.

progress:

need to clean up some bumps and whatnot, and i want to bring the back of the bowl into a bit more of a cant for a more dublin shaped bowl, if that makes sense. probably make it an 1/8th bent or so, as well.
