Highly recommended: http://www.pipemakersforum.com

I shape first, so I'm not a ton of help on what chuck to buy for turning pipes. I hear Trent Rudat makes a stellar chuck, though.

This!

I, on the other hand, turn before rough shaping. Trent makes a great chuck but you can get by with a lot less. I use a 4 jaw Oneway chuck. Not that expensive, works great.

I started out with a four jaw chuck wirh tower jaws.

You will want to use only two of the jaws (oposing).

Once you decide you are going to stick with pipe making you may want to look into Trent's chucks.

Good luck.

I use an adapted Nova chuck when I turn. It works well, but I will upgrade to a 2 jaw dedicated chuck in the future.
Pipemakersforum have all the info possible. Go check them out and read everything!
