I don't drink their nasty excuse for coffee anyway, and all of my local coffee shops happily allow cigars and pipes.

Circle the drain, Starbucks. cheers

They sell LOUSY coffee so I don't have to worry about this. Besides there are other LOCALY owned folks down here I'd rather give my business to Twisted Evil

I stick with local family owned businesses or in the case of Rich at 4noggins (price may be slightly higher), I prefer to do business with him rather than a large company/conglomerate, cause it keeps him in business.

I remember one day about 6 months ago, as I drove by my local Starbucks, I saw two women sitting on the patio smoking cigarettes, and enjoying their $6 coffee. I said to myself, I really should drop by one day and smoke a pipe on the patio, because with a PC company like Starbucks, smoking isn't going to last long.

I wasn't planning on buying a coffee though, just pulling up and getting out, and smoking my pipe on the patio. Laughing

Well, I'll miss going to Starbucks if that policy goes into effect down here.

Four bucks + a long smoke= ok

Four bucks + no smoke= not worth it

Well, the older Armenian guys that hang out all day in the patio of the nearest Starbucks chain smoking cigarettes and milking their coffees will be slightly bummed.

...I'm not a fan of Starbucks and could count on one hand the number of times I have been to one. I still must be missing something...What part of smoking outside creates an issue? As has been stated, I'll continue to give business to local coffee shops that allow customers to smoke... cheers

That reminds me of a local Vietnamese French Bakery here in town. There is a No Smoking sign at the door, and one inside over the counter, but early on Saturday mornings if you go in ( have to get there before 8 am to get any Pate Chaus, mmmm Twisted Evil ) there are all these older Vietnamese men sitting with their French Café au Lais and unfiltered Camels putting a blue haze in the place. I had a friend with me one morning and she asked about "them" and the girl behind the counter asked her , in French, "...do you speak Vietnamese ?" and smiled. Twisted Evil

I don't know where you guys are getting your morning java, but over here all the locally owned coffee places have gone non-smoking a long time ago. Unless you're smoking pot...

9 out of 10 my morning java comes out of my thermos, but if I do buy a cuppa on the run it's invariably from the coffee-cart outside my local hardware store. Outside being the operative modifier here...no bans on smoking outside, not yet at least. Not even in california. Laughing

Don't worry, Californians are a tenacious bunch, many of them treat their state officials like angels and the structure their god. If there's a way to ban something, they will. It's what they like to do. It's their business. It's what keeps 'em going.

"But pot! They legalized pot!"

Great. One more thing to ban when the time (and people) is/are right. No

Just wait.

Cool

Tough luck for you guys. Our Starbucks still allow smoking in patios.

I guess because in Dubai most of the year is 40 degrees celsius and above, during winter when cooler (around 20-25) all patios and outdoor brasseries will be swarming with smokers including big guys like Tim Hortons, Second Cup, and Starbucks.

Nevertheless, still banned indoors. And that's bloody strict. 150 Kms, in another city towards south, smoking is still allowed in some indoors as it used to be old school; smoking and non-smoking sections.

I go to Starbucks fairly regularly. It's one of the few places here that still has outdoor patios for the sake of smokers. Figured I'd tell 'em what I think. They seemed quite moved by my thoughts. Suspect

Subject: Store environment

Dont make the patio non smoking. I won't go to Starbucks anymore if you do.

Dear Eric,

I just finished reading your email and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us.

Starbucks takes pride in providing a comfortable environment at our stores where customers and members of the community can gather. Effective June 1, Starbucks existing no-smoking policy will be expanded to include outdoor seating areas of company-owned stores in the U.S. and Canada. Window clings will be provided to place at the entrance to advise customers. Stores with company-owned outside seating areas will also receive no-smoking stickers for their outdoor tables in mid-June.

We take seriously our responsibility to provide all customers a safe, healthy environment that is consistent across our company-owned stores.

We take your comments about this seriously and want to assure you they have been thoroughly documented and shared with all appropriate departments here in Starbucks corporate office.

We sincerely thank all customers for their cooperation.

Thanks again for writing us. If you ever have any questions or concerns in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

We would love to hear your feedback. Click here to take a short survey.

Sincerely,

Joe L.

customer service

It's ok, I have gone non-Starbucks since 2001.   They are a sorry excuse for a coffeeshop.

I roast my own and just switched from French Press to a pour over via Chemex after my cholesterol was on the high side.   Sometime I just head up to Cup O' Joe in Mission Valley near NCSU.   They have good coffee and a decent size patio for smokers.
