I'm a big fan of the Comoy's shape 284, but they don't come up often and are pricey.  I found this "The Guildhall London Pipe" shape 284 on Ebay earlier this week.  It was in rough shape, but still looked solid, so I took a gamble.  It took a lot of work, but I'm pleased with result.  The stamping indicated a post WWII pipe (per Comoys guidelines). I detailed the restoration steps at Steve's Reborn Pipes blog and you can read more here:
http://rebornpipes.wordpress.com/2013/07/20/restoration-the-guidall-284/

The pipe mud used in the bowl is drying, so I'll wait a few days for the first smoke.  I've been told that this is a premade stem but it doesn't feel bad in my mouth (rather soft, like a Charatan DC stem feels to me).

A few before and after shots.

Great example of finding a hobby within a pastime. And, a productive one at that. Nicely done!

Yes, I enjoy the challenge of a restoration almost as much as smoking the pipe. Someone on another forum recently posted this appropriate picture as this week several boxes have arrived in the mail....

I just finished the inaugural bowl of MM965 in the pipe and Winner! What a great smoking little pipe. I'll weigh it tomorrow on a good scale, but my wifes food scale says it's right around 45 grams, also perfect. The stem is comfy and feels great (yep, just like my Charatan DC's rubber). It's not "clicky" hard like my Comoys stems. A perfect little clencher and at $44, I won't be afraid to hold it that way. One match later, the pipe mud held up well and a cake is starting, about a 35 minute smoke (perfect for standing outside an hotel). No sour tastes or ghosts, whew, you never know with an estate that had this kind of use. Now I know why it looked so well used. You'll see me sporting this one up and down the East Coast.
