Finishes Question Empty
PostSubject: Finishes Question   Finishes Question EmptySat Oct 05, 2013 3:26 pm

Ok,
I got a kit and been working it this week. It's looking pretty good at the moment but I was wondering what most people are using for finishes, stains, etc... I'll probably be picking up a buffer this weekend so any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.

Most type of alcohol based stains are fine. Many pipe makers use leather dye.

I use Fiebings leather dye.  For finish, tripoli, followed by white diamond, and finally carnuba wax.

PIMO has some stains that you dissolve in alcohol. They're inexpensive and do a good job. You can add more alcohol to lighten the color.

Water-based dyes are a PAIN. I have one pipe I made that leaves me red-handed, caught every time I smoke it. 5) It smokes like crap anyway, so no big deal. Laughing

Cool
