I'll be rolling Galloping Gertie out of the barn-hanger this weekend for some last minute tinkering and final system checklists. The Specialists over in Ordinance are prepping the loadout this weekend...nuthin like the last minute hustle. I've got a date with Betty down at the O Club on Sunday for dinner and a little dancing, a bottle of the bubbly, and who knows where the evening will take us. But come Monday morning at Oh Still Dark Thirty I'll be scrambling up into Gertie, flippin' those toggle switches and grinnin' like a monkey in a mink coat...

...cause if raising hell is bad behavior...I intend to misbehave!

-URGENT COMMUNICATION TO ALL BOMBERS-

As some of you may or may not be aware pepesdad1 (Walt), has just become the victim of a most nefarious act by an individual known as the "Butcher of BOB." JUST GOT BOMBED
In brazen contempt for the brotherhood he has challenged us to determine his identity, well rest assured fellow briar lovers, this indignity shall not be tolerated.

Looks like we have a Murder Mystery on our hands!

I have launched my own investigation and I am asking for your help. As I uncover clues about the Butcher's identity I will release them here in this thread. All active bombers should review the clues and help me determine the identity of the murderer.

As an incentive for participation I am offering a reward: the first Jones Halloween pipe.

If you wish to participate please do so by replying in this thread. I will start a list of those assisting with the investigation. This pipe will be awarded to the member that guesses the identity of the Butcher based on the clues I will be releasing. But in order to keep things exciting, each bomber only has one guess. After that further guesses will not be counted, so it would behoove you to make your guess only if you are sure. In the case of multiple correct guesses, I will award the pipe to the first person who submits their guess.

So just to recap:

  • If you wish to participate in the Murder Mystery, reply in this thread. DO NOT PM ME.
  • I will be releasing clues about the Butcher's identity, one per day at 12:00pm, plus or minus an hour, until Halloween Day.
  • Once a bomber thinks he has the identity of the Butcher, they will pm me their guess. They may submit their guesses any time prior to 11:59pm on October 31st.
  • Each bomber will have one guess only, after which they will be excluded from the reward.
  • In the case of multiple correct guesses, the first member that pms me the correct answer will be awarded.

Here is the Reward:

Rising from the depths of primordial ignominy it lives, breathing the fresh air for the first time in three millennia. No, it is not some Lovecraftian inspired creature from an eldritch waste. It is the first Jones Halloween pipe.

When most pipers think of Halloween pipes Trevor Talbert comes to mind. He has created more unsettling creatures from block and bit that can scarcely be conceived. I love Trevor's Halloween pipes and wanted to do one of my own. This is the result.

A lot less disturbing than many of Trevor's creations, this pipe is made from 3500 year old morta, a faux horn acrylic extension, and an orange cumberland stem. The combination works well together, and while this is not an unsettling pipe, I hope the Halloween vibe still comes across without being so obvious as to restrict its enjoyment to only the fall of each year.

As an added bonus this is the 31st pipe I've made in 2013, and is stamped with the digits "3113." Creepy huh?

Duh! This is a no Brainer. Of course I'm in!

PS: The Morta certainly has stain added? I went to your Photobucket page and there's all these shots of it...Black, and then all of a sudden it's GREEN. How?

And, BTW...it really is a gorgeous item, well conceived and beautifully executed.

When the 'butcher' is unveiled, do we all get to bomb him/her Suspect  for using our name in vain? What a Face

Sure, I'll give guessing a shot!

BH, no stain. My morta is completely nude! I see the color change you're referring to, and I believe it has to do with the adjusted lighting in the photo. Photography is not my strong suit! I guess if you're trying to get an idea of it's actual color it's more like the picture you saw than the one I posted.

Knowing that I'm a member of the bombers Walt emailed me early this morning before contacting anyone else and asked if I might know who might be responsible. He gave me some particulars that haven't been listed here on the forum and after thinking about it I believe that it could work to my advantage so I'm going to back out of the investigation. Don't think it fair for me to participate. Walt didn't know there was going to be a contest when he gave me the information and it didn't occur to me that the information might give me an advantage until after I wrote that I'm in. I'm out! Embarassed
