PostSubject: What a Great Morning!   Fri Oct 25, 2013 11:57 am

Frosty! Cold, down in the 20's here in central IL this morning. Sun came up and it's glorious out. I took today off to prepare for a radio contest. Ham radio. I have some radials to run on a couple antennas and some tuning on one. Light breeze with leaves starting to fall. Colors just really starting here, with some really nice reds and yellows. This time of year is perfect for one blend. That Pirate Kake from March 1998. I found the jar the other day.

So I went to the ham shack with my coffee in hand. Booted everything up. Then loaded up the Duca Pipes bog oak squat bulldog with Pirate Kake. Man, this stuff is great. I was just starting to really get into working Europeans and middle east stations, who all were very strong right after the sunrise this morning. Conditions like this only happen at the peak of the sun spot cycle. Then came the dreaded knock on the front door. The local volunteer Fire Department is here with a complaint about what I am burning. As usual, it took some time to assure them that nothing was on fire, I was just smoking my pipe. I was warned not to be smoking whatever that was in the vicinity again, and away they went. "SIGH!"

So they are telling you that it is illegal to smoke your pipe on your own property?

+1

I was a volunteer fireman in the 80's. The only time we ever had burn complaints, it was for people burning huge brush piles or a few junk tires. I will be the first to observe that it is not the 80's any more, but still...

I'd tell them "it's not happening" as I take a big puff. I don't care if it smells like a burning rug made of crotch hair it's none of your business. lol!

This has me thinking "How much smoke can he be puffing to get a complaint?'' Either that aged Pirate Cake is extra potent or your putting out an extra large volume of smoke. It sounds like maybe they thought you were burning leaves and didn't buy your pipe smoking excuse.

How soon some of you guys forget my Pirate Kake stories. There might be a little stretching of the truth.

Well, pirate cake and piles of burning tires do kind of go together.

I do like Pirate Kake on occasion. I have a pound aging, and by aging I mean I am not going to touch it for a long time. At that point I'll probably give some away to my Latakia loving brethren because I could never imagine smoking a pound of it in my lifetime. It's one of those tobaccos that have a serious price break past the 8oz point. If you're going to buy 8 ounces you might as well buy a pound, right?

Anyway my friends comment on Pirate Kake was funny. According to him "It's like cat urine, but in a good way."
