Late 40's you say Padre? By golly, my late Pap would probably have smoked one of those. Pap was a pipe guy as long as my memory of him and I remember him saying he had Kaywoodies.
I got into the pipe thing after he stopped smoking in his 80's. Sadly, his second wife threw his modest collection all out shortly after they were married. This was a few yrs after Mom passed.
He probably had about a dozen pipes, several of which I gave him over the years. Even made him a pipe rack when I was a young 'un in the mid 60's at the YMCA wood shop.
What I wouldn't give to have those pipes today! None were expensive or valuable. That wasn't his style. He just smoked a pipe, as did many of his peer group. It was just what you did.
Didn't mean to go off on a tangent like this Pardre. Guess I'm re-living some memories.
