Kicking around an idea..
Has anyone used a large rock for a pipe ?
You would have to have a hammer drill and say a 7/8 to 1 inch masonary bit and a 3/8 bit.. drill the bowl and shank holes ..use a flexable waterpipe hose and you have a table or bedside pipe..
With this set up you could even make a pipe out of brick !

It ain't little (6.5" - 3/4" bowl) and I smoke tobacco in it.
I rarely smoke it; bought it mostly as a curiosity.  Wink

The American Indians made pipe bowls from catlinite, a red stone that was traded throughout the plains and eastern US. The one I had consisted of the bowl and a reed stem and smoked very similar to a meerschaum.
