I think they're mostly for pot smokers, but I have seen a tobacco pipe smoker use one. They're organic hemp cord dipped in/infused with organic beeswax to make a flexible candle. You light it with your lighter, then use it to toke up.

You can just wrap the cord around a lighter, and use the lighter to light the cord, which can then reach to the bottom of the bowl like a match, but maybe slower burning. I'm always nervous about running out of fuel half-way through a smoke and needing a relight, and this would at least make refills fewer and farther between.

Has anyone used one? Any thoughts? Worth a try?

Never even heard of this until recently. That's all this activity/hobby needs--more paraphernalia.  No

A bic lighter is $2, buy several and leave them in places you smoke (car, den, porch, spares in the kitchen drawer, etc..). When you light them and tilt them upside down they draw just fine to the bottom of a bowl with a flame soft enough to not burn your fingers or char your pipe rims.

There's always boxes of stick matches too.

I do keep boxes of matches around for back-up. I hate using bic lighters, though. I wouldn't mind lighting a wick with them, though.

BTW I think paraphernalia is half the fun!

I wonder if they burn slower that a match, which often burn far up the shaft before I'm done with them and lead to rim-char.

If I try this, I'll probably make it myself. I wanted to buy beeswax to try making mustache wax anyway.

You'll learn as time goes by, that living by the K.I.S.S. principle will bring you more pleasure in your smoking. Right now you'll adimately oppose what I'm saying, but time changes everything  Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I have used one I believe by beeline and I feel that if your really into the whole only lit your pipes with matches thing it really is awesome but a huge down fall is now you have to carry the beeline string and I lighter or at least some source of fire to light the string.I simply just use my zippo now.

See, I hate the zippo taste, even the 'odorless' fuel, but I could use a zippo to light the wick. Apparently they are better than matches in light wind. Did you find that to be true?

I'm not fond of Zippos for the same reason. I'll echo the Bic suggestion. I've never had a problem with the flame reaching the bottom of the bowl, either. A plus with the Bic is that they use butane gas which is almost odorless in comparison to the Zippo stuff.

I have used most of a $.75 sample I got online. I conclude that it's not really worth the hassle. I think I was initially drawn to it for novelty and the allure of yet another fun DIY project, but I prefer lighters.

If you're a matches-only purist, on the other hand, this might be a replacement or back-up that you would like. It works almost like a continuous match you can light with a Bic, Zippo, etc. If you're worried about chemical or a flame that's too hot, this might be the way to go.

I did notice some taste/aroma, but it was not unpleasant. If any taste/aroma on light-up is a turn-off, then stay away.
