PostSubject: Sharing my Artwork   Thu Mar 20, 2014 5:34 pm

I saw LordTemplar's thread about his artwork and I decided to copy his idea and share some of my artwork with my fellow pipe smokers.

First off is a graphite work of a restored mill in a local park near Raleigh NC. I'm pretty proud of this work since the park has an annual art contest and this work won 1st place and is currently on display in the mill's visitors center.

Next up a couple of lighthouse pictures. I'm working my way through all the lighthouses in North Carolina.

Cape Hatteras.

This one is of Carolina Hurricanes Goalie Anton Khudobin making a stop on a penalty shot that was awarded to Ovechkin. I got him to sign it while he was doing a meet and greet at a local grocery store.

It takes work to get into a gallery; but, if you look around you will find one. Word of mouth is the best start. Ask your friends if the have been to galleries that hang art similar to yours. Make a disk of about 12 to 15 works. Take very good photos of your work and matte and frame one piece. Take all these things to a gallery you would like to hang in and tell them that they might like to hang your work. Show them your portfolio of photographs, leave them the CD and your name and address. While explaining why you want to hang your work in that gallery hold up your matted and framed work in such a way as to allow the shop owner to imagine your work hanging in the gallery. Above all play the show and tell by ear and make sure their percentage seems far. I know you can do it!

It's been a while since I've finished something but I just wrapped up this one today. I hope you like it. It depicts, the House in the Horseshoe, which is located in central North Carolina. It gets it's unusual name from its location, which is atop a hill overlooking a large horseshoe bend in the Deep river.

It is was built around 1772 and in 1781 it was the site of a skirmish between the owner of the house, militia colonel Philip Alston, and loyalist Colonel David Fanning. The short battle ended with when Alston was forced to surrender but not before the house was riddled with bullet holes, many of which can still be seen today.

I just remembered that I haven't updated this thread for awhile. I've been on quite a car kick lately that started out with this image of Jack Brabham driving in the French Grand Prix at Reims. This is the first work that I sold prints of.

Which led to a commission work for a friend who wanted an image of his 2008 "Bullitt" Mustang. We decided it would be neat to place it in San Francisco and make it look like an updated version of the original chase scene.

That inspired me to create this image for the sports car club I'm a member of, to celebrate it's 50th anniversary. The larger image of the 1963 MGB belongs to one founding members of the club. He had the car in 1964 when he and some friends started the club and he still has it today. He is still an active member and officer in the club. I gave the original artwork to him as a way to say thank you for all the work he has done for the club over the years.

Thank you for looking!

Wonderful, Shawn. Love what you're doing. Is that Barred Owl your drawing . . . or a photograph?

Thanks for posting your work,
