PostSubject: Smoke tastes like Water   Wed Sep 17, 2014 8:46 pm

I tried 3 different blends tonight. And they all had no taste. I thought it might be due to the weather, as it is rainy and wet out. I had let the baccy dry for a little bit, but, neither the Squadron Leader, Mellow Monk, nor FVF had any taste. I thought it might have been the sweets I had eaten, but after brushing my teeth, I discovered that the center of my tongue had no taste. My coffee had no taste and my soda had no taste. It was crazy, as I was tasting everything earlier. I guess I must have burned out my taste buds from not drying my baccy out enough. I was getting tongue burn, and just ignored it. The only thing I did, was to try to put the smoke elsewhere, but on my tongue. I guess my tongue said, "enogh!" LOL. Well, at least I can smell the baccy. I finished my bowl of FVF by inhaling the smoke through my nose for some flavor.

Any idea on how long this might last? I know the weather is starting to go nuts here with changes from hot to cold. I hope this doesnt last long, as tasteless smokes are not enjoyable.

A while.

Biotene and rest. Call me in the morning if symptoms persist. That'll be $40 co-pay for the office visit, $273.52 for reading your medical history, $938 per view consulting fee, and $25 for the work excuse. Don't forget to have the receptionist validate your parking. Good day.

You've got a cold JP, no doubt about it my friend, get yourself stocked up on VitaminC supplements and get yourself dosed up on those for a week or more, make sure you have at least 600% of RDA or it wont do a thing, trust me mate it'll help more than you could ever suspect. Eat lots of chicken soup, the proper chicken soup not that creamy rubbish stores are selling these days, have a roast chicken meal and keep the carcass, crack the main bones so the marrow is free to escape during the reducing then put it in a big saucepan of water, bring it almost to the boil then let it simmer for a couple of hours. That with the VitaminC will do you more good than any antibiotics, make sure you eat plenty of good solid protiens and carbohydrates, no sugary rubbish for a while as they trick your immune system into thinking there is a stable supply of energy to work with and of course there isn't with that sugary rubbish so you end up with your own immune system running you down making you even more ill than you should be.

Eh look now socialist medicine wants involved..patooy.. We done capitalized up in here.   Lol

That is a possibility to, but I often burnt my tastebuds to oblivion by just smoking to much or to fast.     Truthfully though some of what ya said Briar would do us all good all the time.  Vitamin C is our friend, and avoiding rubbish disguised as food is a must.  I quit eating sweets some time back, I actually get full now.. On stuff that's good for us.

Loss of taste isn't something I attune to as many factors can and do contribute to such a condition but the smoke tasting like water, a sure sign of a cold setting in. If I understand the description the symptom it will be a watery sensation which manifests almost as a taste in the back of the throat whilst inhaling smoke, as the cold settles in it will be present through normal breathing. It could be symptomatic of Bronchitis which if it is the case then some bed rest will be in order to avoid a full on chest infection, I've endured Bronchial infections all my life, I was born with Bronchial Pneumonia and I get ill every year with chest infections, I know the pain and hardship they bring when they come to visit all too well.

D4, is this your first run-in w tongue burn/bite? I'd say try the chicken soup, take the vitamin C, but also lay off the baccy for a few days and your tongue and mouth will be ready to go... And your body will welcome the good food and vitamins.

I am sorry to hear this. Before I was getting allergy shots I couldn't tatse anything during allergy season.
I have also started using biotene tooth paste as well as mouth wash and it really helps.

Just had the same problem...everything tasted like crap. Was advised to smoke some Lakeland tobacco and it will bring your taste buds back in line.

I live in one of the prime N. CA ag regions. I get a bit of this when the trucks start hauling hay bales around here.

I find that if I stay hopped up on vitamin B, I suffer less from some of the allergens in the air at harvest time..

JP, You must be drinking better water then me cause our water here tastes so bad I can smell it!

Lack of taste happens to me it seems all too often, rest your tongue, Biotene and quit smoking that pipe so hot. If ya can't slow down, Stop until ya can. Remember, smoking
a pipe is a relaxation to be enjoyed slowly and savored IMHO. If your puffing to keep it lit,
let it go out and relight. Sometimes our humidity doesn't agree with smoking a pipe and ya
just can't try and fight it. Okay, there my worthless 2 cents, I gotta get some of your water. Wink

Ron, I have well water. It is nice and clean. Next time I visit, I will try to remember to bring up one of my 7 gallon containers full for you. You will enjoy it for sure. We had it tested and it was super clean. No bugs, etc in it. I have gotten my cadence down to a slower smoke so that it I am not looking like a freight train. I think, though, that my baccy isn't getting dry enough. I left some escudo out overnight and it was still moist this morning. I am letting it dry all day. We will see what it is like this evening. Smelled good though Smile At least I didn't lose my sense of smell.

Walt, I don't know if I have any lakelands. Would Kendal tobacco be considered a lakeland?

Update: My palate has cleared a bit this morning. I think it is a combo of sinuses, smoking too hot (wet), and weather. I will try again tonight to see if it is any better. If not, I will just not smoke for a little bit.

No need to bring any water sir, I hardly drink the stuff anymore, ice tea and coffee is all I ever drink anymore.
Maybe it's just they way I smoke but, I've never dried Escudo out, of course I've never had any that was more then just a bit moist.

I presume that Lakelands is similar if not the same as Kendal tobacco.

The same thing happend to me just a few weeks ago. Oddly I could still taste cigars. Do everything suggested. None of it will hurt, and something might help. My taste came back in about 2 days.
Mike.

So, after drying ALL DAY, the escudo is finally dry enough to smoke. I packed a bowl of it into my Peterson 999 as it has the p-lip and will keep the smoke off of my tongue. My taste has recovered a bit. I can taste some, but not all of the flavors. At least it isn't watery like it was last night. It is still 100% humidity outside on my porch, so that will affect it for sure. I am also smoking a whole lot slower. If my tongue starts to tingle, i let the pipe sit for a minute or so.

Ron, I can understand why you like Escudo so much. This is the best bowl I have smoked of it so far. Very sweet and mellow.

Yes sir, I like it because it's rich, smooth and buttery all at the same time and the closer it gets to the bottom of the bowl the better it is.
