It would seem I get one more summer day tomorrow, then a three day ice storm....

Cool Beans! The crash of ice covered trees breaking, glimmer of reflections, all that... I might just go park outside a store and watch the folks panic.... It'll be better than Black Friday! Twisted Evil

Couple of nights ago we set a new all-time OKC low, -3F. Today it's frappin' 75F! By Friday we are supposed to be near 32F with rain, sleet, snow, and ice thru Sunday. What a crazy time of the year!!! Makes gettin' in a bowl or three a real challenge!! cheers FTRPLT

Five inches of snow at our place last night and this morning. That pretty much shuts the town down. At PDX I think they're saying nine inches...but as much as 13" to 15" in some neighborhoods. And since it fell at between 32F to 33F it's a wet heavy snow. Huge trees are going down all over. Nasty business out and about. And of course we're set for temps not going above freezing for the next three days so it's not going to be the usual fast melt off we usually see.

Currently making "pee paths" out back for the Pug and watching local news channels that have all gone into 24 hr storm mania mode.

Make sure the 'Pug path' is well groomed. None of mine can even stand getting wet feet, much less tunneling a 'Potty Burrow' without getting lost, or at least mildly disoriented.... Seems like we had a great sledding thing going on in Garden Home, Oregon about seven or so years ago. Cross country skiing to Washington Square for a Blueberry Jamba Juice. Then off to Hall Blvd. to get some excellent sushi, sake, and then home. Here, I would need to hitch up the llamas and it would be a week round trip adventure.. Just for a truck stop pizza, whore and six pack of Old Milwaukie's Best Ice in cans.

But at least the cans are pounders................

cheers

Of your truck stop trio I'm finding it hard to figure an "order of reject-ability". Yikes!

'Watson' does well in the snow. I cut a channel across the deck to the lawn, cleared it, and he trots out and hops off there belly deep in the snow to pay nature its dues. He has a spinal issue and drags his rear toes. Over ten grand to fix him. Not happening.

That's why I stay home....

Good Ol' Watson.... Yah, good for you to help him make his way out.... Pugs aren't built for jumping, and doing so can have adverse effects on their rear drive.

Stay warm and safe guys!

Yeah...it snows 9" to 12" and then that's driven down by cars and some daytime melt at maybe 35F to about 4" of very solid ice...hard freezes at night with temps in the teens. Pretty nasty business as it happens like once in 5-6 years so there are very few plows, etc. All that plus less than half the cars have winter tires and more than half the streets have some grade...wheeeeee! It's a winter wonderland (wonder where I'll land).

Clear and cold...19F. Household water taps being run pencil lead thick 24/7 to prevent pipes from freezing. Sunday afternoon is first point it's predicted to get above freezing. Winter fun.

But many insect populations like mosquitoes REALLY don't like these hard freezes and will be much less this coming summer. Works for me.

Been pretty sub-zero for me as well BH. But we're finally climbing out of that now. Like you, I had the water running so as not to freeze pipes. So far this is going down as a winter to remember!

Mad

No Cheers,

Had a high of 31...with freezing rain, roads are a mess. i stayed indoors almost all day. Stepped out once or twice to check conditions. Got yelled at by the wife. She does not want me to risk the shoulder for any reason. She's a good nurse...a little grouchy, but that is necessary considering the patient.

Been clear and cold here lately. I like the sun but not the sub-zero temps. Looks like we'll be climbing out of that in the next few days. Maybe then when the rain melts the snow I can get on with cleaning up the incredible amount of debris from the last windstorm a week ago today.

Looks like heavy rains starting Mon-Tue. Hope it doesn't create flooding in the lower elevations. That would not be good!

Cheers,

RR

There was a major ice storm yesterday that has effectively shut down all
routes over the Cascade mountains going eastwards.

In fact I-90, the main arterial east from us has been closed from 8PM
yesterday (Tue) and is not expected to re-open until tomorrow (Thurs)
at some point! Even the transportation dept cannot access the freeway
to assess it due to the freezing rain on the roadways, and the
avalanche danger resulting from a sheet of ice on top of the snowpack!

Also learned that Yakima, which is the centre of our hop growing
region in E. Washington was effectively shut own due to the ice storm.
So it's very widespread! And the hundreds (thousands?) of big rig
trucks carrying goods and supplies that cross over Snoqualmie pass
daily on I-90 are now idling on the side of the freeway or in town
awaiting the re-opening. It's eerie to see them, although it's a scene
I've witnessed multiple times over the years.

As for me, fortunately the ice storm missed us here in
Snoqualmie/North Bend. Looks like it hit just a few miles east of us.
All we got was rain, and plenty of it although we didn't see any
catastrophic flooding from the snow melting on the upper elevations. I
was rather concerned about that.

The good news there is that the warmer temps have mostly melted the
snow here at home which accumulated to about 10" a few weeks ago and
remained whilst temps never got above freezing for what seemed like
weeks on end. I can't wait to see what my next heating bill is going
to be! All to say it's been a rough winter so far and it's not over.

Looking forward to the warm and milder climate of sunny southern
Arizona in due course!

Cheers,

RR

Absolutely beautiful day here in NC. Most of the day nice and sunny with a high of 72 degrees. A great day for enjoying many pipes outside. Drastic weather changes are on the way.

The snow finally melted enough for me to get a good start on cleaning up all the fallen debris from the windstorm over a week ago. Spent several hrs in the yard with a wheelbarrow, a rake, and a broom (for the rear deck). Made much progress on the larger stuff but will have to go back another day for all the rest. Now have at least a full pickup bed size load to deal with!

Just learned that I-90 might re-open eastbound soon if the maintenance crews can get all the fallen trees off the road. I-90 has been shut down both directions for essentially 2 full days! Westbound might have to wait. What a bummer for the truckers and travellers. It isn't often that I-90 closes for this long.

Temps here in the foothills have been in the low 40's daytime, and upper 30's nights. Rain and showers is our pattern going forward. At least there's no more snow for the time being!

Cheers,

RR
