PostSubject: McClelland Top Hat   Sat Jan 10, 2015 5:47 pm

Bought a tin in December 2014 and just opened it and expected the vinegary/ ketchup smell but, there was none at all. And not really any aroma came from the tin. The flakes are fairly large compared to what I'm use to seeing, sorta like a unraveled cigar. Anyway, so I loaded up my Ascorti bulldog and went for it, it packs and lights easily being on the dry side and, it's fairly smooth and sweet. At this point I don't really notice any Perique as yet but, it's just the first bowl and with my palette it may take time to really pick out all the flavors hidden within.
All in all I like it a lot so far, only time will tell.

If it's a VaPer and it wears a Top Hat, I must try it (oh no, yet another one).

A drier McClelland? Hmm. I have to check this stuff out. Love McClelland's tobaccos but I have been having to dry most of my favorites for 3-4 hours on average until they're to my liking.

I liked it, too. Here's my review of it:

The red and stoved Virginias are very tangy and fruity with the barest hint of grass and some earth. The perique is a noticeable but minor player, offering more raisins and figs than spice, though that spice is an important nuance that seems a little more obvious as you go along. The familiar McClelland vinegar note mostly disappears after a few puffs. Thereís a slight woodiness present, too. Itís not as bold as the description claims, but it has enough strength to please with a little nic-hit. The sweetness mitigates the strength enough that it could be an all day smoke for the experienced smoker who likes sweet VaPers. It may be a good place for a movie VaPer smoker who has a sweet tooth to start. Produces lots of smoke, burns cool, clean, and even with few relights, very little moisture and a consistent flavor. Leaves a very pleasant after taste, too.

That was the first time I ever wrote anything remotely suggestive in an internet forum in my life. But... I just couldn't help it. I blame Cart for being the bad influence. Laughing
