Sooo...

I'm not really allowed to smoke in the apartment Rolling Eyes
and the weather has been too cold for even the roaches.

The Mrs. got sick and I spent the evening last night taking care of her.
I wanted to go smoke but I also needed to be on duty if she calls, so going outside wasn't going to work.

I threw in the "maybe I could smoke by the window" just to see if I could get away with it...and she was like OOK whatever just be ready for anything.

Ahhh.. cheers

I set up the heater, pulled out some vanilla candles, mixed a mudslide cocktail, loaded some Molto Dolce (bystander friendly) leaned back in my computer chair by the window and fired away.

It may have been the Mudslide or the candles, but I had a GREAT evening. It was a rare session that I was able to sit in the comfort of my home after a meal and decompress.

I was called in twice, without hesitation and she now appreciates me being on deck instead of away when I smoke. (She still can't stand the stuff)

A good start to pipe smoking in 2015!

Anyone have a similar experience to share?

My wife let me smoke some stanwells vanilla in the house. I watched the Hobbit while smoking it. Wonderful smoke, and my wife didn't mind it, as it doesn't leave a nasty after odor of stale tobacco in the house. It is nice to smoke inside when it is colder than a witches you know what out there.

Yeah I smoked propped up in my bed earlier.. Now I'm smoking in my recliner. If someone don't like it they are more than welcome to go sit on the porch until I'm done.

I am being polite about it and not intentionally blowing smoke in anyone's direction, unless I'm looking in that direction.. lol!

Still smoking outside where its cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. Hahahaha. That's an old nautical expression not a innuendo. I can explain further if anyone cares to hear it.

Let her rip brother the worst that'll happen is the subject will devolve and get moved to the rubber room.

As to the OP. Late this summer when I was cleaning up the new place while the kids were away at summer camp I was smoking inside like a chimney. The place had been vacant for nearly two years and reeked of mildew. It was a rare pleasure for me. Right now I'm chomping at the bit to get some smoking in but its just too cold out.

I'm an indoor smoker mostly. With the new baby, I can't smoke downstairs anymore. And I had to find more house friendly blends. 1Q, MB modern VA oddly enough Prince Albert work out fine. She smokes cigs though, so it's a bit different I think

I still only smoke outside or in the garage, but "California cold" is not real cold.

I smoke indoors and outdoors. Indoor smokes need to be room friendly/ wife approved blends. Outdoors, I can sit on front porch and watch the world go by, since SW Oregon cold normally aint that bad. afro

I prefer smoking outside.   The sounds, the fresh air, the sun, the breezes, the stars... smoking inside would just mean another ass-anchor and an excuse not to get a change of scenery.   FTS.     Some of you might not have a choice, though.   Since I do, I do it outside, and happily so.  Give me a covered porch with shade and/or a good coat, no problem.

One day I'll have a specific project room where there aren't pets, books and expensive/rare electronics to protect from smoke on occasion.  Hell, it could be half a garage with an Archie Bunker-type chair, a heater, an old TV or a decent old radio.  Mainly for those times when the wind is howling or the downpour is sideways.

I chatted with one guy who really tricked out his first lawnmower shed.  It went from a stick-built box to a keen almost-studio apartment.   I think he finally bought an aluminum shed at the feed store for his lawnmower since he needed the space.  Laughing  Projects gone awry.

Cool

...I guess I'm lucky...my wife, six children, and two grandkids have never complained or said anything about my smoking...I smoke outside, in my car, and everywhere in my house...although, when my children were infants, I never smoked in their rooms.

I did have some folks drop by my home many years ago and upon lighting my pipe was told that they didn't like pipe smoke...it never occurred to me to put out the pipe...I simply escorted them to the door and told them to leave...anything less than being assertive in the matter is not in my nature...

To explain "Freezing the balls off a brass monkey".

Back in the days of wooden ships and iron men, The plate that held the cannonballs had indentions on it so they could stack the balls in a pyramid. It was called the monkey. They were originally make of iron but with the salt water the bottom layer of balls would rust to the plate. So they started making them from brass. In cold weather the plate would contract and the balls would roll off, so it would literally get cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. Thus the phrase was born.
And there is your nautical history lesson for the day.

Smoking inside, it's a family tradition! Both Grandfathers did, my father did, and I have and still do especialy since I live the singular life. I start the day with my cuppa and a bowl and end the same everyday! Twisted Evil

Laughing

Reminds me when I took a visiting friend-of-a-friend back to her hotel in my vehicle as a favor and was told my still-smoldering pipe (filled with some kind of Latakia) was horrible and I had to put it out.   I merged through traffic and stopped at a bus stop and simply looked at her, pipe-in-mouth.  She looked at the bus stop, then back at me, crossed her arms and said, "Touché" very snottily.   After rolling down the window, she practically hung her head out like a dog the entire way, which I found satisfactorily amusing, so I, being the gentleman I am, didn't ask for any money for gas or for dealing with her attitude.  We were even at that point.
