Of course, the scented and flavored and whatever snuff blends are great and wonderful, yadda, yadda, yadda. (Intending no disrespect.)

But what I was really thinking about when I first put my foot on this road was a rich flavored, moderate N hitting, natural tobacco snuff. So finally I've coming around to discovering which those are and which ones might be right for me. So far, I've ordered the following:

Sam Gawith Black Rappee
Sam Gawith Kendal Brown Original
Sam Gawith London Brown
Gawith & Hogarth Kendal Brown
Viking Dark

Any experiences with any of those by any of y'all.

What I'd like to find is a good sample of Viking Blond. Mr. Snuff now only has the monster size. If anyone can hook me up I'd "appreciate" it.

Of that group, I have only had two, the Viking Dark, which is rich, plain and fabulous. It has good nicotine but it's not overwhelming, of course I only snuff a bit at a time.

It's been a while since I tried S. Gawith KB Original, but I could have sworn that it had a slight baby powder scent to it. Honestly, I haven't gotten into the Sam Gawith catalog too much. The last one I purchased was their Apricot which was not to my liking. Smelled like Fruit Loop scented manure.

For rich, fermented pure tobacco flavor, it's tough to beat the Bernard Schmaltzlers. I think you ordered the Brasil Doppelferment. That's a good one.

1. OK good. Looks like I'm good, esp with the Viking Dark then.

2. I thought I'd ordered the Poschl Gawith Apricot based on a suggestion of yours I'd seen. Must be trippin'! Rotten barnyard fruit, eh? Hmmm. If it was flake I'd prolly love it!

3. Re technique...I've read that the SP snuffs are typically more dry & a bit finer than many suggested for newbie users...yet I've been OK with the Gawith SP in terms of 'application' into the zone, etc. Hopefully that means this'll work out.

4. Have you (or anyone) indulged in the Sir Walter Scott line? The descriptions make it sound pretty freakin' amazing!

OK, all fer now.

Poschl Gawith Apricot is a different beast. Strong mentholated snuff with a wonderful apricot finish. Incredible morning snuff. Sniff it inside, wait 2 minutes and go out into the fresh morning air which will be magically laced with a lingering scent of dried apricot. Made in Germany by Poschl and IMHO 100% awesome.

Sam Gawith Apricot is just fruit snuff, no menthol, made with the finest English horse turds.... Yada, Yada. Razz

Haven't tried the S. Walter Scott snuffs.

You'll be fine with the SP's. Some are stronger than others, but you smoke Dark Flake Scented. Not too many snuffs can touch the power of that. Now if we're talking Dholokia White that would be different. That stuff is insanely strong, dry and fine.

With the SP's just sniff very lightly, and make sure you direct it towards the front of your nose.

Also

Sam Gawith Black Rapper? Seriously? I had no idea there were hip-hop snuffs... Razz

Um...my wonderful tablet!

The Rappee would be the one it's directed toward. The Rapper is the one on stage.

Viking Dark is my favorite unflavored, and is 2nd only to SG Black Coffee for favoriet snuff.  It is basicly SG Black Coffee without flavoring.

I used to love NTSU Black, but of late I have had a problem with the coarse grind.  I still enjoy the the scent although some compare it to a barn in unpleasent ways.

Edit: oh and Black Rapee is a love or hate. I love the scent, but hate the grind. Very very coarse and a challange to snuff. I've been finding coarse grinds are uncomfortable in my nose.

When the Lord returns to the world of mortal man, Viking Dark will be his snuff of choice. Incredible stuff.

Otherwise, you might also want to look at Toque Berwick Brown (similar to the SG London Brown in scent, but substantially less annoying to take).

PM sent.

Comment Section:

1. The Blond is supposed to be close to the Dark and one of the most manageable snuffs out there.
2. Viking Dark  is supposed to have a dead ringer made by the same company (SGawith) with a very slightly different formulation. Called Black Magic and tinned for The Snuff Store...it's also at Mr. Snuff.

https://mrsnuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=3384

3. And apparently SG makes one called Silky, or something, and it's really really close as well. Sounds like a trio to draw to.

SWS snuffs can be HO. Some experienced snuff fiends love Lundy Foot.

Heck! SOME snuff fiend out there loves ANYthing!  lol

Of the Sir Walter Scott line of hand crafted snuffs, a fair number sound good to me...

Creme de Figue (fig arrack)
Field of Junipers (Juniper Berry)
Lundy Foote (roasted?)
Moro Moro (orange spice)
Mull of Oz (Islay Malt Whiskey)
St. James Parrish Blend (Perique)
Roselein (Rose, Bitter Almond, Ambergris)
Thrice Brewed (weird, involved processing)

But the brief descriptors don't in the least do them justice, I guess. It's like saying that Santo Domingo smells like dirt from a cedar forest...which it does...but it goes much further, being reminiscent of the explosion of "earth" aroma one would get upon kicking open a fresh area of forest soil after a rain (note: that actual smell being caused by the microbial content in the dirt which oddly enough is used to create a host of antibiotics and other medicines...potent stuff). So we're talking pharmacology, the balancing of botanicals and chemical esters, etc. not just dumping some flavoring agent into the hopper.

I guess Scott's stuff if epic and has a cult following. Plus it's small batch. Get it now or bye, bye. That kind of thing. Anyway, I find the whole thing really very interesting. But see? That's what makes pipe blends so interesting...the uniqueness...the subtlety...the nuancing of flavors.

You were writing about that just the other day...and, um, I couldn't keep my nose out of it...er, so to speak. (sorry) (snicker)

Just got an order in directly from Toque. I got some pairs...a small tin of snuff (10 g) and the same blend in one of the mini bullets (1 g). The blends are:

1. Original
2. Apricot
3. Natural Toast

After reading up on the bullet things and how to get a double dose out of them (easy) I tried the Natural Toast this morning. Nice straight flavor, slight morning burn, very nice straight toasted flavor. Thrilling? No. Worthy of a return visit? Definetely. Potentially a staple? Perhaps. Certainly nothing wrong with it.

Out of all the items mentioned here I keep going back to my plastic tub of Gawith Kendal Brown most often. It reminds me very much of what I think FVF would be like as a snuff. Easy to manage, very excellent non-smokey natural tobacco flavor and a nice N jolt. It's all good.
