Nasal snuff, never tried it. But, you blokes seem pretty enthusiastic about it, so I'm thinking about giving it a try. I know nothing about it aside from perusing a few threads here, looking over the Mr Snuff website, and watching a couple of youtube vids.

So.

1) Is decent snuff available from US internet retailers, or just overseas?

2) If a guy isn't a big nicotine craver, should he even bother?

3) Can you recommend a couple of decent examples? Not really interested in fruity, mentholated or overly floral, I'm thinking good strong tobacco flavor, maybe some earthy spices.

1. No
2. Yes
3. Toque Berwick Brown and Toque Natural are great places to start for "natural" snuffs. Viking Dark is my favorite, but there is a bit of noticeable nicotine in there. Sam Gawith Yellow Crest (unscented) is also nice, as is Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown. If you like Latakia, de Kralingse Latakia A/O is top of its class. If you're not opposed to something a bit flavored, try Samuel Gawith's Black Coffee. Not fruity or floral, and the coffee scent is pleasant but not super-strong - it doesn't hide the natural tobacco underneath.

Ian made some real nice suggestions.

General consensus among folks that enjoy snuff (myself included), is that Viking Dark is a big winner. I am nicotine impaired and I enjoy it quite a bit. It does have a kick, but it's the right amount of kick.

The Bernard Schmalzlers are all really nice. I'd highly recommend two of them. These are dark, deep flavored moist medium grind snuffs - Brasil Doppelt fermentiert, Aecht Altbayerischer.

Fribourg & Treyer Santo Domingo is really good. I just tried it for the first time thanks to gravel and there's no perfume to it, just simple moist flavorful tobacco.

Between these 4 suggestions, there's a bit of overlap in flavor, so you might want to pick a couple that have a subtle scent to them just to have a bit of variety. Coffee and chocolate flavors go really nice with the base tobacco tones. I think Dholakia Swiss Chocolate is superb, and Abraxas Cafe 11 (coffee) is very nice. Ian's suggestion of SG Black Coffee is good too.

4 days ago I would have recommended something different for a dry finely ground snuff to try, but Old Mill's Pure Virginia Toast is probably the most superb toast I have ever tasted. Old Mill's Greyhound is fantastic (added flavors but done so very well)

Anyway, some food for thought

Cool, thanks. I'm going to have to put a small order together. I realized while reading some of the posts in this subforum that snuff is about the only form of tobacco I haven't tried. Cigs, chew, cigars, pipes, even vaping (which turned out feeling silly as I'm neither in need of a nic buzz or trying to quit cigs), but not snuff.

Besides Mr snuff, any other retailers I should take a look at?

Nope. They're the one to buy from. Shipping prices are pretty much on par with an average pipe tobacco order.

Old Mill Artisan Snuff, is purchased by contacting Chef Daniel. http://www.oldmillsnuff.com/

My experience with his snuff is very limited, but everything I have tried has been somewhere between good to fantastic.

Placed my first order:

Fribourg & Treyer Santo Domingo
Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown
Samuel Gawith Kendal Brown Original
Wilsons Sandalwood
Toque Berwick Brown

They were out of the Viking Dark and the schmalzlers recommended, so maybe on the next order, if I like the stuff.

That's an interesting site, and as someone that likes to cook - what an cool approach.

Do you order what he has made that month, or anything listed?  The April menu is huge.

Email him...and he'll give you a list of what's available, it does match the website, as of last week though...

I had no interest in snuff until that Old Mill link showed up.

5)

His Bananas Foster recipe in "Ramblings" forced my hand.

Is there a US retailer for more of the snuff accessories type stuff? The Posh (sp?) bullet looks interesting, as so some of those plastic boxes I've heard about that allow you to tap some out without opening the main lid.

Trying to think about ways to easily (and cleanly/covertly) have some of this at work. I work in about the most anti-tobacco places I have ever seen - there is a policy about the tobacco free workplace that includes using the garbage cans for empty packs of smokes, pinched out butts, wrappers, empty chew cans, etc.

I'd found some of that on amazon (not the boxes, but the bullets).

I got the impression that the bullets are more for alterative materials deep "snorting", where the Posh was designed for more gentle sniffing for snuff. Then there is the dose question......

No?  Same same?

I am not married to the rocket idea, but it seems a little more covert.

I'll put the boxes on my amazon wish list though.  I noticed Mr. Snuff was out, too.

Thanks for the info.

Honestly I really don't know. I have never used a bullet or rocket. Perhaps, I will order a Toque flavor in one of their preloaded bullets and see if it work for me.

I have always just used a tap box or carried around the Toque/F&T style screw cap tins. I have a few empty Toque tins that I use at work with the labels peeled off. They look like pill containers. I'll put a week's worth of snuff in them on Sunday night, and refill them as needed.

Roger.

I have been lurking in these snuff threads a bit, and know this intro stuff has been discussed, along with the methods for using your hand (the little depression behind the thumb, etc.) - I just have had no luck in uncovering it again.

I'll wait until it pops up on Amazon, and see what Old Mill sends. Thanks for the help. Smile

Old Mill uses nice tins- similar to Toque, but sturdier.

Got my first shipment from Mr Snuff in less than one week, pretty cool.

That's more than a little impressive. Mine came in Monday, just under 2 weeks from the order date (which is normal...I don't raise an eyebrow until we're coming up on three weeks).

Shipping is generally quicker on the coasts than in the middle. I usually get my orders in 7 days or less.
