PostSubject: My Fourth Attempt at Carving a Pipe   Sun May 10, 2015 6:53 pm

This is my fourth attempt at carving a pipe. I used my lathe to drill the chamber and draft hole and do partial shaping. Making a spiral bowl is not one of the easiest to do I know but, I had to find out if I could. It's not perfect by any means but, I learned a lot in the process, the next one will be a little easier and come out better......I hope. So, anyway I thought I'd show it off cause I'm a bit proud of it just because I came real close to what I had in mind when I started.

I like it a lot! When are you going to start taking orders? I love the shape and appearance. The metal is super cool. Did you chamfer the tenon? It's interesting how it's kind of faceted. Anyways, good work. I'm guessing we'll hear if it's an escudo compatible smoker!

Taking orders? Probably never sir, if I do start doing this regularly it'll only be the pipes I have made already for sale. And we aint there yet anyway. Yes, I did counter sink/ chamfer the tenon, what your seeing is skipage in the cutting edge because I did it hand held out of laziness, that won't happen again.
I'm most likely not going to smoke it either, why the hell do I wanna smoke my pipes for? All that work and then I should set it a fire?

Thank you eklektos44 and Brewwdude your both very kind but, I have a long way to go before becoming anything but, just a hobbyist. I'm too much of a perfectionist to expect anything more at this time.

Very nice work Ron! Did you use a metal or wood lathe for the stummel?
Mike.

Thank you Mike I use a Metal Lathe, an old 1940's Craftsman/Dunlap 6". But I could only cut it at two different angles leaving much to be shaped by hand on a disk sander. As soon as I have enough funds I'll be look'en for a 10" I think.
